Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

Favourite way of going home ....
Question:
OK. This sounds quite sick, I know. Well, I'm a happy guy. Really! I don't think about death and dying at all, but sometimes we get reminded that life will end for sure for everyone and the question what would be your choice if you had it - is and was ever there - at least for me.
Why I started this thread is, I've seen a documentary about Hitler and he chose to die with poison and a gun to his head at the same time. Oh! Does that make sense? One thing will surely kill you, but ....
I once had an operation and the doctor told me to count from one to twenty when I was given the general anesthesia. I know I passed out when reaching the number 4. Nothing I did recall, so what if the doctors did tear me limb from limb? Could I care less? Can I get a general anesthesia and take home for a worst case scenario? I don't think so.

"And not to see the Way's deep truth
disturbs the mind's essential peace".--from the Hsin Hsin Ming by Chien-chih
Seng-ts'an the Third Zen Patriarch [d. 606 A.D.]
I recall having IV Versed for a hospital out-patient minor surgery. One moment I was thinking something cold was blowing on my right forearm, where the IV needle had been inserted and taped, the next I was being asked to 'move to the right, please, sir' by the OR Nurse. It was 47 minutes later and it was as though someone had just clipped those 47 minutes from the tape of my experience and tossed them and joined the two cut ends still there together.
Choosing to end one's life is a deeply personal decision. At this point in my life I could never see how I would/could do it but..that is right now. Who knows what I will think or choose to do at a later date?

Answer:
In my sleep.
If I had control over the situation or chose to depart, I would probably want to go peacefully. Either by way of some type of anesthetic or depressant overdose (i.e., sleeping pills) or possibly freezing to death. I remember going deer and turkey hunting with my dad when I was around 14. We would be out in the woods and settled into our spots next to a couple trees by 4:30 in the morning. I'm not sure if it was the cold, the boredom, being up at such a God-awful hour, or a combination, but I could barely keep my eyes open. It makes me think this would be an easy, painless way to go. Just go out into sub-zero temperatures, sit down, curl up, go to sleep....and beyond.
But like I said in the following related thread, I plan to live forever.

Answer:
I would never even consider committing suicide, just because of my personal beliefs and morals, but if I got to choose the way to go, I'd just have somebody push me out of an airplane without a parachute. Either that or I would choose some really painful way to go, like burning to death. In the end, you're going to be dead, so what does it matter?

Answer:
As fun as freezing to death, being shoved out of an airplane, or being lit on fire sounds, I'll be a bore and say I'd rather go in my sleep. It's not the dying that bothers me so much, it's the pain or fear so I'd rather be out of it altogether.

Answer:
Probably young...Life gets boring after 30 anyways.

Answer:
Oh. man, morphine is never boring. In my sleep, in a morphine fog, that's the way to go. But I'm a downer freak, always have been.

Answer:
Hmmm...interesting topic. I guess I'd have to go for the ol' gun shot to the head. Simple and effective.

Answer:
Some ancient Greek philosophers committed suicide by keeping their breath until they passed away. For them, being able to know when your time has come and to be able to put an end to your life was considered a sign of maturity. But when the Christians started to spread all over, suicide went to be seen from a noble gesture to a shameful and unforgivable action, it was an offense to God.
Maybe there should be introduced in high schools some Modern ways to commit suicide or The history of suicide courses, just in case someone wants to do it so he won't think that its such a big deal or a very rare and original act....

No, I don't think so. It might have the opposite effect. Many teens feel inmortal, which--not so paradoxically, makes suicide easier.
Martin : " I am prepared to die! "
Beckett: " How old are you? "
Martin: "Eighteen."
Beckett: "Dying's easy---at eighteen."
From Jean Anouilh's play 'Beckett.'
It's been a while since I saw the film with Richard Burton and Peter O' Toole. Hope I'm quoting it correctly.
Besides the " Modern Way" seems so painless: Drug overdose, gas from stove, carbon monoxide from a car's tail pipe, bullet to the head, and so forth. It may give the illusion that it's not quite final and real; unlike the old days when one would have to commit a horrible act of violence on one's body.
I'll save the option for when I'm both terminally ill and in great pain . . .
I've known 2 people who offed themselves. One was my best friend in college, who went schizoid. The other was a guy who had a back surgery that worked, It cured 90% of his pain. But he couldn't deal with his GF leaving him and taking her kid with her

Well, I was going to say that the way I'd like way to depart this vale of tears would be at the age of 80 through overexertion caused in bed by two foxy and incredibly depraved young babes.
Blast you, kbe! Did you have to bring up the Hsin Hsin Ming?
My discriminating mind now nags me that I must fullfill the Boddhisatva vows, attain Supreme Buddhahood, and save all sentient beings.
Now, the best case scenario is to pass away peacefully at 90 as an abbot of some temple, while doing zazen.
How boring.
Cry me a River,
