Needle and the damage done
Question:
My girlfriend and I had been in disagreement about the site for a few days prior to the posts being submitted. We shared opinions about many topics discussed here, but it had always been among ourselves. Last Friday before leaving for work, I briefly browsed the site, my email and a few other things then asked my GF if she wanted me to leave the computer on for her. She said "yes" and after saying goodbye, I went to work. After I got home from work, I was unable to log-on to the forums and got an upgrade message. This went on for several days and on Sunday evening after trying yet again to log-on, I thought it was odd that other members were still able to write reviews and realized they were able to log-on, but I couldn't. I told my GF that I was going to call the ISP the next day and that is when I heard a very disturbing confession. The issue she and I had been in disagreement about was the thread about the nude male model advertising a male fragrance. She questioned why I would have replied to a thread like that and I showed her what I had written (I commented that I liked the nude female in the same link). She then questioned why I was even on a site with a bunch of "gay men", I tried to explain that all members were not gay (ei. myself)...this obviously wasn't good enough, so she asked some questions herself using my account. She explained that everyone was mad about the question and that she had used the word "fag". When I heard that, I knew why I couldn't log-on. My GF said she tried to delete the thread, but couldn't and listed a number of other things she did to my profile while trying too, as well as deleting all of the email notifications I received about the thread. She said the thread was deleted about an hour after she put it on. I tried to restore my deleted email to no avail, so I don't know what wording was in the thread or who replied to it. Today is the first time I've been able to log-on. I was able to send Grant an email (via the main page) expressing the same as I've explained to you and I guess he's letting me view the forums again. I don't know if I can post as I haven't attempted too. I will try to post, if for no other reason than to apologize. I accept full responsibility for the threads as it is my account and I should have handled it more carefully and certainly will in the future. I sincerely apologize to anyone who may have been offended by the threads. This will never happen again. Now there is a disturbing thread in the Supporting members forum I must address. My view CJ is that you wouldn't be here if you weren't basically a stand-up kind of guy. Apology accepted, and I hope you don't leave. That said, you've obviously been going through some tough times lately — you said so on another thread — and if you want to talk about it then here is a good place to do it. Cheaper than therapy! BTW I was one of those who responded to that thread (and the one about Jesus, which also got deleted) but I don't see any need to repeat what i said. Answer: I kind of had the thought in the back of my mind when it was all going down that perhaps someone else was using CuyahogaJoe's account. All that stuff didn't sound at all like something a supporting member would say. I guess looking back that it's pretty obvious what was going on with those schizoid postings. I'm sure you know this NOW but... Always make sure to log out after you're done! Answer: Your Girlfriend doesn't notice that there are hundreds of threads along the lines of "Which scents will get me a woman?" and next to no threads along the lines of "Which scents will get me a guy?" on this supposedly gay site? Renato Answer: I must admit I was a little mortified myself at the bigoted comments your GF made, and I am a completely hetero male, happily married now for 8 years. Obviously her "insights" offended some of the homosexual members here (one in particular enraged enough to threaten to cancel his supporting membership), but as a heterosexual man, reading the post of another supposed "heterosexual man", I thought it offensive and a disgrace. I think it kind of you to apologise on her behalf. Just FYI, I too was unable to log on to the forum for 5 days or so whilst an upgrade was in effect. How many users did have full access to the basenotes community over easter? I was under the impression all were denied access. I think CJoe is referring to supporters being able to post reviews to the directory pages, not reviews or comments to any of the forums. Thanks for asking and helping to clear that up, Dimitri! --Chris Answer: Yeah, Joe...I don't think any of us were able to use the forums for a few days there; but we would view fragrances, their reviews, and our wardrobes. Now I'm really curious to see what the gf typed! Answer: Whew! Faith in humanity somewhat restored. Thanks. Now, about that woman... Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
