Well, supermarky, several of your posts and threads annoy me with their absolute rudeness. The one linked above is a classic--a childish insult meant to...what? Make basenoters feel second best? Bwah ha ha! I've been to PoL and MUA during upgrades. This last upgrade I didn't even bother.
basenotes is my favorite site. It's not necessarily because it's superior, though. I really don't know about that---it's just my fragrance hobby home, or rather, I'm a guest in Grant's fragrant hobby home.
If I go to PoL or MUA in the future to visit, I can promise you I will not insult those sites on their homeground. First, it's mean spirited. Second, they're great sites--different to me, not my favorite---but like fragrances, they're great and someone's else's favorite, someone else's warm happy place to chat share a pleasant hobby. I respect that.
I'm still sorry to see you go. You are colorful, opinionated, and offer your own unique view of things---a fabulous guest at a dinner party, worth the occasional roll of eyes for the energy you bring. I bet you do drive the mods crazy, but I still grin (and shake my head) at most of your antics I see. No offense meant, I swear, but I do feel like Melanie defending Scarlett-- "Why, she's just lively!

The thought of leaving this community, I assume, matures quite naturally after a while within all of us. Men grow older and discover new goals. After a couple of years, a thousand posts more or less, the feeling of a standstill, the idea of having read every single post before, and posting same responses as in the year before gets a bit tiresome. New posters come, long term posters go, that's one aspect of the internet...
Still - I hate to see you leave! You are definitely not petty minded. You have your edges, I noticed, but more often than not you have surprised us with stunning views on life and its many perfumes (suppose I only read censored editions)! Within this community you have proven to hardly ever be predictable - certainly an asset! I consider myself lucky having known you a little better. There's gold under a surface that I found a bit rusty at the beginning. Stay in touch!

I think it most courteous of people departing such as yourself, giving everyone a final farewell. More typically, the case is that after a while people start wondering what happened to person x who disappeared without a final goodbye.

hey I have popped back to look at this cause I had hoped people would PM me after reading I would be leaving . . . and then hoped, when that didn't happen .. as much as I thought it might, that the reason could be that people were responding here...
I won't be back. I'm very uncomfortable using basenotes now. Recent events lead me to consider that, while certainly nobody is drawn here just to read what I post, the fact is that I provide a lot free content for this site, entailing a signifigant expenditure of effort on my part. While my interaction with all of you has overall made it very worthwhile, the downside of it, the "politics" as I think one person put it in another "bye bye basenotes" post, has basically ruined the whole thing for me.
If were able to explain why I posted the "rude" announcement that POL got high marks from Andy Tauer, what the proverbial last straw was, I wager you would understand why I made such an insouciant post. But of course I'm not permitted to defend myself here. This is not to say that I'm dying to have my day in court. All I'm saying is: I'm really over basenotes.net and it has to do entirely with the way the site is run. In most respects they do the best they can. In others, there are grave shortcomings
As I said before, I will continue to post in the sale/swap area, and if I have a screening or something coming up (let's hope) I will certainly fashion some kind of "what should I wear to my premiere in xxxxxx?" so that if it's at a festival near you maybe some of you might be able to make it. Even if I'm simply travelling somewhere, I'll likely ask what I should wear wherever it is I'm headed, in case there is a opportunty for another "close basenotes encounter"...(hopefullly nicer than the one I once wrote about!).
I'm considering, but can't really get too excited about the prospect of starting a fragrance blog. My sense is that mostly those languish in pitch blackest obscurity. But I would love to have email addresses of anyone here who wouldn't mind basically having me around as though I never left, only via email instead of through basenotes.
(And, yes, I sure want to know about the prices at SMN in Florence!)

Oh, for pete's sake. If you're posting a big dramatic thread about "leaving forever" then why are you checking back to see if anyone's replied? The only thing worse than fishing for compliments is fishing for attention. If you're going to leave, just leave and be done with it.
