Collars (rant)
Question:
This current trend of folding the collar of a dress shirt over your suit LOOKS SO BAD. People who do this look like a cheap car sales man, the kind you find trying to sell you a ‘89 civic... Anyway....PLEASE STOP DOING THIS. And laides, WHEN YOU DO IT, IT LOOKS EVEN WORSE! http://www.productdose.com/wp-conten...man_blazer.jpg (its a bad pic....but you get the idea) Answer: I prefer that way more than a popped collar. I think that collars where meant to cover a tie and when people have then flipped up so they cover their entire necks, it just looks cheesy. I think of Dracula in a lime green shirt. EnvYuS Answer: I don't mind the collar over the blazer look. If one is wearing untucked dress shirt and jeans, it looks too formal to have the color underneath the blazer. Having it over and out seems more relaxed, a la cruise ship formal. I don't think it's "new" trend per se, but it seems like a retro 70's, 80's thing. And yeah, I hate the popped collar trend. I admit, I did the popped polo once or twice, but this was two years ago and I was the only one who did it on my school's campus. Then Kanye started to copy me, and the rest of the world copied him Now popped collar just ='s AdG frat boys to me. :-/ Answer: Oh yea, the worst thing is the: double pastel wearing polo guy, with both collars popped people. That's just rediculous. Answer: Originally Posted by gator This current trend of folding the collar of a dress shirt over your suit LOOKS SO BAD. But that seems to be the least of his worries. Jacket is much too big and the sleeves are about 2 inches too long! Surely that is not an advert Answer: Originally Posted by Trotsky
This current trend of folding the collar of a dress shirt over your suit LOOKS SO BAD. You're right, the sleeves look horrible! A blazer's sleeve is supposed to hit at the thumb knuckle (when arms are in the position shown in the picture). Answer: I was under the impression that the blazer's sleeve length must be short enough so that the cuff of the shirt must show. I think it's like 1/8th or 1/4th inch of your shirt sleeve should show under the blazer's sleeve when standing at attention.
though, its worth noting, that just like all proportions in the ever-shrinking men's blazer, sleeves are getting shorter. Thome Brown now has us wearing sleeves that look like baseball shirts. I prefer that to this pic here, the guy looks horrendous in all dimensions (never seen a one button make someeon look so fat), as I like to be able to let my cufflinks peek out on occasion.
