But they have to keep taking the stuff for the rest of their lives - that's an awful long time.
What happens when down the track they get some illness, say something common like high blood pressure or whatever, and their doctor says that it may be wise if they stop with the Propecia? They'll have an interesting choice to make, risk death or lose their hair.
Surgery is the sure fire fix to the problem, with decades of successful results, and no side effects.

Yeah that´s true. Propecia is hardly a permanent solution. But my friend has taken it in periods, which at least has given his body some rest when not taking it. I also understand that Propecia will not work for those who have lost all of their hair, only if you begin taking it in time as a preemptive measure.
On sugery I must say that I have seen so many horrible "hair-jobs" that it would probably deter me from ever going down that road. There´s nothing more tacky & ugly than a guy who´s plugs are showing clearly on his scalp. I Immediately think eastern european pimp when I see these guys, for some reason they often sport loud shirts in combination with this atrocious "modification" as well. Maybe it has something to do with not accepting growing older?
Of course I naturally don´t notice all the sucessfull surgeries BUT the bad ones are enough to question this procedure. Is it money related? Does more money give you better results? This could certainly be the case since many celebrities like Bono & others seem to have had good results. In that case start saving up!
How about laser? There is some kind of long time treatment that has given very good results. They stimulate the follicles back into activity, very painstaking & expensive too though.

Were the east European pimps smoking heavily? Apparently, hair transplants are less successful if one continues smoking, and despite the warnings from the sugeons, some people find they can't kick the habit. Also, the transplanted hair is only as good as where it came from - if it was going to fall out from the back of the scalp, it will fall out from the transplanted area at the same time.
Good surgeons should give one a good evaluation of the prospects, and be experienced enough to give an honest assessment in the small number of cases where there isn't a good prognosis for success.

Just wanted to chime in and saw that Matthew McConaughey has been praising something he used to grow his hair back. I've seen it mentioned half a dozen time in the past year. I'd try the product he uses. I'm sorry I can't quite remember the exact name.

We've had countless TV ads by famous local sporting personalities over the years about how well various treatments by specialist hair treatment organisations work. Investigation by consumer groups showed that the organisations were very well run. The clients would be given all the treatments as promised. The consumer groups suggested cutting out the expense of the middleman and going direct to the surgeon.

My husband is losing his and I've tried to tell him, that baseball cap isn't fooling anyone. If you're over 30 and wearing a baseball cap everywhere it's like a neon sign. Just don't do it. He won't listen to me but trust me, women find completely bald sexy. Bruce Willis never looks more manly than with a bald head, Yul, Vin, Ed Norton with his shaved head...never looked better to me than he did without hair. Jason Statham...swoon. Now, these aren't guys with pretty faces either, anyone can pull of bald, it's all about the attitude. I just think if you don't have to worry about the hair loss then you'll feel better about yourself and more confident. Women like confident. I know, I know, no one's going to listen to me but I thought I'd tell you the gosh darn truth from a ladies perspective.

I think that you are partly correct, some guys can indeed carry off being bald to perfection. But equally true is the fact that some just can't. Some just evoke sad comments about looking prematurely aged.
One of my friends got a toupee for a while - he did look 15 years younger, but hated the feel of wearing it. When you took the cost of the very expensive hairpiece into account, plus the ridiculously expensive haircuts he had to get every two weeks on his natural hair, it would have been cheaper and much better had he just going to a surgeon at the appropriate time.

I met my soulmate when I was 17, not too many bald 17 year olds then Plus, you grow as you get older. I've been married 15 years this year and while my husband isn't completely bald, I just think he'd look pretty darn hot if he was. I let him know so he knows it's a choice, I love him no matter what he does with his appearance(sigh, even the baseball cap..I just helped him pick out a new one). I had light burgundy hair when he met me, now I have dark/medium brown, so while my appearance has changed I think I still find ways to play it up to my best advantage. You have to do the best with what you have I guess.

Hey if you still have quite a bit I understand the value of maintaining what you have left. In my case I pulled the foolish whip technique for about 7 years too long. I finally broke down and gave up the ghost when I heard some of my teamates laughing at me as I was chasing a ball in the gap. Something like there goes Cubby chasing the ball and look his hair is following behind him. I waited till a Labor Day Tournament and used a Wahl Clipper with no edge guard. I wore a baseball hat so nobody initially knew what I had done. Boy did I get some shocked looks when the hat came off! I kind of admired the Kurt Angle character so I used this at a motivational force to help me through the adjustment. Really the only thing I worry about now is remembering to make sure to wear the Sunscreen when involved in outdoor activities.
