Scents dissapear?!
Question:
Does anyone else have that annoying problem that the scents you want to stick - fade without a whimper and the ones that are 'so so', get nice and warm and cling to your clothing and sheets and everything! Example I am talking about is: Narciso Rodriguez EDT. I really like this frag - but it doesn't seem to do much on me. I just can't seem to get the basenote. For an hour it is really fresh and crisp with lovely rose overtones and slowly drifts away - like an offended Muse. But - Chloe Narcisse or Gem Van Cleef! - I get the LOT! Top note, mid note, basenote and everything else in between! I love them - its' great that I have a journey on these fragrances but alot of the new fragrances seem to really dissapate on me. It dissapoints me as I love perfumes and love to experiment but I feel like I am missing out on some 'Dan Brown' secret! Bugger! Oh No - now I sound like a whinger! Ha Ha Does anyone else have this problem? I guess what I am asking is? Are the new fragrances of 'lighter' formulations not lasting? Are the 80's powerhouse frags the way to go when you want to be with something for 6 to 8 hours? Answer: Yes, I have this problem too! Very few perfumes last for more than 3-4 hours on me. Layering with shower gel, lotion etc doesn't really do it for me either. Let us know if you solve the problem! Answer: You-re not alone. I like both NR and Lovely from SJP, so did my friends; but we all have stopped buying them because they don't last on neither of us. Even though I sprayed liberally all over; like a body splash; you still could barely smell them. A bottle of 100ml lasted me only a month...and I remember that Eternityor Obsession lasted me a year. I found a tread about "sillage monsters" on the board; there you get an idea of what frags to wear if you want to smell your perfume; and also like others to smell it. Mondeeva had some nice suggestions, and I recently bought Dior Addict as it was listed in that tread. But I'm curious to know why the newer scents are so fleeting? Isn't it trendy or "in" anymore to smell of perfume I wonder... Answer: I wondered if you had tried Vanderbilt. It seems to me to be a beautiful, classic perfume with incredible sillage (I told the story of my experience of it elsewhere). In Australia at the moment it is priced at $25 for a large bottle and I wondered if it might be being dumped on the Australian market to avoid the European restrictions. This really is a classic from a by-gone era! Answer: I have this problem. Part of it is down to the fact I have 20-35 minute walk to work (the time depends on whether I take the tube or the train first) and there's a big hill involved. I do get pretty hot and a bit sweaty, being honest, and I think it burns off some of the perfume. I find only the really heavy duty stuff (like Poison) lasts on me all day. Anything light and floral is gone in an hour or two. Answer: Same experience, wanted to buy SJP Lovely on basis of excellent reviews but I couldnīt smelly literally ANYTHING! What the hell is with musk? Is it true than some people havenīt ability to smell musk at all? Answer: Musk is tricky. On me, it has to warm up before it starts projecting. Answer: I've just recently discovered that I like my scents fleeting - it seems like anything with staying power feels too strong on me (though I don't mind it on others). For instance, I tried out one of the Burberry ones and I was racing to the washroom to scrub it - toooo strong!!! However, I really appreciate most (not all) of Annick Goutal's for this reason; Petit Cherie, La Violette, Mandragore, even Eau de Camille don't stick to me so I get a hint of it but that's it. Eau de Charlotte is a bit stronger on me, and it's probably the strongest I can handle. Answer: Since I've posted, I've done a couple of experiments with my frags. It seems to be the old school nose slappers that stay on. Not even the expensive ones - which I guess is good, but annoying when you splurge and 'poof' scent is gone! For example - Rochas Femme lasts all day pretty much. D & G Red cap another. Wow! The guys from the old days really knew how to work the silage. Check out my original post 'Where are the knock 'em dead 80's frags gone?' I've been complaining about this for a while. I'm such a sook. I think I should have a hot cup of coffee and lie down! Answer: I wore Angel EDP today (with a little Rose Angel on top) - you know, that big, powerhouse scent? All gone, already, and it's only 11am. I notice anything I put on my arms tends to disappear fairly quickly, but I usually spray or dab down the centre of my chest, and this stays around most of the day (especially if I put my head down my top and sniff ). However, the Angel hasn't lasted at all well - there's just the ghost of an odour. Ho hum. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
