RIVE GAUCHE.. Your views please.. - Page 2
Question:
Like my friend Gupts, I get impressive longevity from RG - in that way it may be #1 in my collection. It's easily noticeable after 8 hours for me, and my skin normally tends to drink fragrances rapidly.
And I've had a lady want to get close and sniff me when I was wearing it. She got about as close as possible short of taking my shirt off. I did not find this objectionable in any way!
I've had this result with several YSL frags. Merci, Yves!!!!!
But to be honest, although I do like it, and it is unique, I don't crave it as I do many of my other scents. So I don't wear it that often, and I have it in my swaplist, slightly reluctantly. If no one takes it, I'll trot it out once in awhile and see if more ladies will want to bear down on my body.
I think that many people end up with a scent or two like this; I'm indifferent, but the ladies go nuts! (or men, conversely). But if you like it, go wild!!!!!
It might be worth noting that RG is in a can-like container, which seems very light even when full, because we're all used to glass!

Answer:
Take it easy? It's all good... : )
I was just giving my opinion since the original poster asked. I don't think it's a bad fragrance. Actually, I liked it at first. Then during the drydown it started to smell like Barbasol. I'm sure the quality is good, it's just not for me. Originally Posted by deeablow take it easy

give it another try probably - it definitely has some depth!

Answer:
YES, you need it AND M7.
YES, these are some of the finest YSL offerings.
It's pretty universally liked around here, but I actually prefer the light version. There seems to be too much anise (in the regular) and I can't get around that. It's all root-beered out.

Answer:
M7 and Rive Gauche are two very different scents. I myself am not a fan of either of them. I can see why people like M7, but it's not for me. Rive Gauche, both times I tested it was boring to me. Once again, just not a scent for me.

Answer:
Rive Gauche is truly wonderful. It smells so fresh and clean without being one of the countless "aquatic" fragrances out there. I think a lot of this quality comes from the fact that, yes, it does remind one of shaving cream or other grooming products. It's still a bit strong on first application, but quickly mellows out and is downright delightful. It lasts a really long while, but I do get a lot of olfactory fatigue from this one- I'll barely be able to detect it, but someone near me will have no problem noticing it. Again, another YSL masterpiece that doesn't enjoy much retail success, but we can only hope it'll stay on the market for a long while.
I find Rive Gauche to be similar to Azzaro Pour Homme, but much more refined. After getting my bottle of Rive Gauche, I haven't been able to wear the Azzaro at all- as great of a fragrance as it is, it's just outdone in every way by RG.

Answer:
I own the intense version. Wonderful fragrance...and a top compliment-getter to boot.

Answer:
i like the light version cause the regular is too bitter and the light one is more like shaving cream!
you should buy RG from a basenoter, incidentally, it's always available here cheap...

Answer:
It's a great fragrance I couldn't be without. I've never tried RGPH Light, but I do have the Intense version which I am looking to swap for the regular version.
The Intense is a bit 'dirtier' and therefore more manly, could be pulled of by the ones who like Kouros. If anyone wants to swap just PM me.

I never did get what all the fuss was about...back when there was a fuss I never liked it all that much and the only comments I ever received on it were unmistakably negative. Sigh...maybe I just don't have the right personality for it, because it sure does seem to work for everyone else around here.
