Thoughts on "Construction"
Question:
When analyzing/talking about a perfume's construction, do you think more about the harmony of the notes and how well they're blended (ie, you can't really pick out individual notes because they all go together so well), or do you think more about the degree of evolution of the scent from top to base? Or is it simply a sense of how much thought/emotion/expertise goes into the making of a scent? I'm just curious because I see so many comments on how scents are so well blended and constructed, but I don't recall a definite definition for either of these terms. Thoughts? Answer: nobody will take this on eh? there was another thread on this subject though, I remember several weeks ago. . that got lots of replies. maybe people are still fatigued from that round? -------------------------------------- oh here's something interesting from the yahoo perfummaking "lesson #3" Perfumes are build up with accords. Like it is with music; notes are part of accords. Accords are perfectly balanced notes that gives a complete new note. It?s like you blend a yellow and blue color. Together it will be a green color. For example if you mix the fragrances of fresh cut grass, sugarcane, butter and ripe apples you get a strawberry smell, but only when you use the right proportions. On the next pages you will see some different accords of perfumes. it goes on Chypre Chypre is a harmony between the freshness of bergamot and the intense fragrance of oak moss. Mostly combined with roses and jasmine. The base contain beside the oak moss also patchouli, cedar and labdanum. Chypre was the name of a perfume made by coty in 1917. It does not exist anymore but many chypre perfumes are inspired by it. Perfumes inspired by Chypre Mitsouko is a Chypre combined with the fruity note of peach. Paloma Picasso is a Chypre combined with aldehydic notes Ysatis is a Chypre-Oriental perfume that possesses Rose Mandarin, Clove, woody notes and oak moss. etc Answer: Yes, there was a thread a while back.
