It never really occured to me to even look at the fragrances whenever i'm at Walmart, what are some worthwhile scents they have stocked?
edit: for kindness

Answer:
Ok... on topic.

Scents very by location. My local Wal-Mart has most of the quality designer frags in 1.7 and smaller sizes. That is where the bargain is at versus Dillards and the likes in the area. I'll use D&G ph for this example.

Wal-Mart has it for $39.

Parisians has double the size for $65. You'll
also get some samples.
The store I buy from... $45 for the larger size.

This is how majority of the scents fall. Nice till you look into it.
BTW....
The local Wal-Mart is higher on Issey. 43 for a 1.3 and I'll buy next month from my local store a larger size for 40

Answer:
There are 3 'local' Walmart's in my area. One is a 'SuperStore' with full grocery inside. The other two are somewhat smaller and much older.
I checked out the frag section in the SuperStore. All but a few shelves of Stetson on sale were locked behind glass sliding doors. The selection was not too bad but mostly the more popular scents, for both men and woman. I recall Burberry London, Shalimar, Cool Water, Curve, Halston, etc. all priced less than retail but above what they can be bought for online. Not a single tester or sample available.
No sales help seemed the order of the day throughout this store, except in fabrics, where sales wont happen unless someone is there to measure and cut I guess. I watched one woman try for 10 minutes to get help to buy a cologne for her husband (locked sliding doors) before she just gave up and went on shopping elsewhere in the store.
I buy from WalMart only things I cant find anywhere else or are inconvenient for me to travel to buy. They are constantly understaffed, never have enough checkout lines open, prices are generally as high or higher than competitors except for the special displays of low priced items prominently placed with large pricing signs (a sales technique, I have learned, that tends to make the buyer think everything in the store is priced lower than competitors' similar items (Target for example) --but definitely not so!)
WalMart typically wipes out the mom-and-pop stores in any area they open up a store. These little stores, unless they are niche-type with unique items for sale--simply cannot compete and their customer base deserts them quickly for the lower priced and far better stocked WalMart. I wont judge if that is ultimately a good or bad thing. That would depend on which side of the fence the judge is on. Just a fact.

Answer:
Where I used to live, we actually had a grocery store nearby that had a better scent selection than any Walmart I've seen. It's called HEB (some guy's initials I guess). The prices were about the same. So either both of these companies are using the same tactics to lower prices at all costs (which I doubt because HEB isn't nearly the corporate giant Walmart is) or fragrances companies are voluntarily selling some of their stock at lower prices to these types of places.
I would bet that the fragrance companies choose what scents that provide in bulk at Walmart and groceries. The ones that have been around forever and that they can produce cheaply.
As big and bad as Walmart is, I doubt it makes much of a dent in international fragrance sales for most of these produces. Most scents are still sold in malls at their normal price.

Answer:
I've only purchased one frag (212 Men 1.0 oz for $20) at WalMart. Their selection is quite limited and their prices for the most part are more than what you would expect. $35 for a 2.5 oz bottle of Joop is not much of a deal when compared to the online discounters.
I add that I regularly shop at WalMart because they generally have the lowest prices of most things except scents. I've heard that many people favor Target over WalMart but when you look at it, Target is just as bad (no testers, limited selection, prices not discounted that much). Furthermore, I will continue to buy my scents from online discounters and Ebay.
