-- Van Cleef pour homme reformulation --
Question:
Van Cleef pour homme is a classic which I have worn even before joining Basenotes. Alongwith Polo Green, this is the fragrance which has been popular with the senior men in my family. I bought a new bottle last week, and to my nose, I detect some differences. I think either Pluran or Scentemental commented on the supposed reformulations but I could be mistaken.

To my nose, there are some differences in the juice. I also own a bottle from the early-mid 90s - these bottles dont have the word "pour homme" on the face. Interms of composition, I notice that the new formulation starts off brighter but the floral heart is more subdued. I smell more cedar in the old formulation as well. Although it still sports good longevity, it seems like it doesnt last as long as the old formulation. The new bottle just seems less virile overall. Somethings not right.

Has Van Cleef been tinkering with the original formula ?

Has Van Cleef been tinkering with the original formula ? ZZ — your right, this has been discussed before, even in the last few months. Other threads even give directions as to how to locate the older bottles, which are still around. Your perceptions on the differences accord very well with what others said, if I remember correctly.

Answer:
I'm a glad owner of the old stuff. A 30ml bottle, so I treat is as a jewel. It's different to the new thing.
Last month I got a 50ml of Givenchy Gentleman (old stuff also); glad I did, as it's much better than the new version.
I'm glad Eluard pointed the differences early enough, because it was the last bottle in that store. Thank you.
I would be glad to find Guerlain Vetiver old version also. But in my area, it's impossible.
There's something very bad happening in the fragrance world, as everybody seems to agree.

gupts I only own the newer, so I wish you're right. But, unfortunately, as far I as remember, you're the only basenotes member who thinks this way. And, based on the differences I now feel between my Givenchy Gentlemans (newer and vintage), I feel difficult to believe there's no change on Guerlain Vetiver.

I'm with gupts in not seeing the difference between the old and new formula GV......................you're not alone gupts

Answer:
I have the vintage version, and it seems super concentrated as well as slightly animalic, as opposed to what I can remember from the newer version. Even though I love the old version I have, it can be a little too much for me to wear sometimes. Maybe the newer version would fit in my wardrobe for when I feel that the old version is a little too much or heavy.

You are right here, but instead of saying something's not right here, i'd say something is different.

I like both scents just fine.
The juice is still very elegant and very smooth.
