Buying scents at Walmart
Question:
I've just discovered the fragrance section at Walmart, and i'm wondering if anyone here buys Walmart. I find that they definately do have the best prices out there, surpassing any online dealer and even e-bay for certain ones. I just bought my second scent, Opium PH ODT , for 25$ CAD (21$ USD) blind there.... The reason I bought it blind though, is that with those better prices, they have NO testers. I asked the woman if we could smell it before the buy, and she said it was impossible, and that the philosophy was to go test it in another store, and then come make the final purchase at walmart. So, anyone shop for their fragrances at Walmart? Also, any experiences with this store you'de like to share? Answer: Originally Posted by mad_handerchief the philosophy was to go test it in another store, and then come make the final purchase at walmart Ugh, did she really say that??? There's no Walmart where I live, but if there were, I'd be tempted to open boxes and sniff there before making my final purchases online. Answer: Test some where else and buy at Wal-Mart. Ugh I only would buy there if no other place has it. Honestly... I would buy online. I hate Wal-Mart as I'm in a business that has to compete with Wal-Mart and their go ask the experts then buy from us mentality. /rant Wal-Mart selections vary by location. I saw a few Burberry frags but I know of a local owned place not too far away that is only 5 dollars more on prices, larger selection and actually helpful. Yeah, not like Walmart can't afford a few molested boxes of perfume. Honestly, I hesitate to buy anything there for moral reasons. Their perfumes (and other products) are so cheap because at almost every possible point in their distribution network, they're screwing somebody over by using their massive financial influence to push suppliers around. But I must say i've never encountered anything but nice employees there, so that's at least one redeeming quality. But I digress, and this has nothing to do with perfume. How much was the Opium anyway? I have a hard time believing you found the 100 ml for less than $26.99 (scentiments.com, for anyone who's interested). But if you did, I totally don't blame you for buying it, even at Walmart. That would be a hell of a deal. Answer: Answering your question with one word wouldn't be polite, so I'll tell you why my answer is NO! Walmart's purchasing strategy is this; Acquire a product line, pay the initial cost of that product, increase purchase orders 10 fold, threaten the company if they don't supply increased quantity, company's product line will be removed. Force company to invest in capital improvements based on current pricing structure, Walmart then demands lower cost or company's product line will be removed. Company operating at a loss goes out of business...but you saved 29 cents on a box of pancake mix. Reason 2, Walmart buys from economically depressed area's of the world (not that that is a bad thing but). People work 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week, live 6-8 people per room in which you wouldn't let your dog live in. Once, a merchant asked Walmart for 1 penny more per garment, this would have allowed the workers to eat chicken one time per week. Not only did Walmart deny the request, they lowered the price they would pay by 1 penny per garment. By the way...Walmart was paying 12 cents per garment and selling them for $13.99 Answer: When I was in high school, I had my mom buy me an Armani aftershave splash, like in 1993. Last August, I bought a 3.4 Oz of Burberry Men for 24.99 or 29.99 or whatever. Other than that, I stay outta there. And the reason they want you to test elsewhere is because the primo stuff (Shalimar, Burberry) is behind a locked glass case. You can't break open a box if you tried. The cheaper Stetson stuff, that you can try. I buy online for the cheapest prices. WAY better selection than the Wal-Marts 'round here. Answer: The fragrance cabinet stays open at the Wally-world here in Rock Hill. It used to stay locked and you had to wait for an employee to open it. I guess they figured it was such a bother to find an employee to open the case when there was someone waiting....FOREVER, just to get one bottle of perfume. Now the case is open and they have testers. Of the scents they don't have testers for, people just open the boxes, take out the bottle and spray away. .....but, yes, I've bought frags at Wal-mart and it's much easier to choose now that the frags are literally at my fingertips. S Answer: Definately. If the frag is there and you want it, go for it. I'm all about Walmart, just take all of those sappy anti-walmart stories with a grain of salt, because most of the time they're pulled out of people's asses. Answer: If you know exactly what you want and price is the only thing you care about, and Walmart happens to have it, then sure. But what a joyless shopping experience. I'd much prefer to walk in not knowing what I want, talk to someone that is nice and helpful, buy something I hadn't tried before, and take home a bunch of interesting samples. Not to mention the painfully long lines and the general clutter and disarray of a Walmart raises my heart rate about 20 beats per minute and makes me tense up. Answer: Wal-Mart's profits are going downhill, and for good reason. Rude, unhelpful employees, and just an overall grimy shopping experience...i feel like i need a shower after shopping there. I'd rather shop at Target. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
