Too young for Guerlain Vetiver
Question:
Just wondering what are members thoughts on this?
Im 27 years old... when i wore vetiver the other day, my gf (24 years old) literally gagged and immediately had to wind down the window of the car...she has smelled 20 over scents on me and has never reacted in such a way...the words "grotesque and old man" was her description of the scent... it was kind of embarrasing for me as you can imagine.
I personally don't quite know what to make of Vetiver myself. for all the adoration for vetiver in this forum, im feeling kinda left out hehehe...
which made me wonder... if Vetiver appropiate for a younger audience?

Answer:
I do think that one can be too young for a lot of Guerlain scents, including Vetiver — I'm sure others might disagree, but I'd include Héritage as well.
If you yourself like it why not wear it when your girlfriend is not around. Personally I think its not a good thing to antagonise your loved ones with your taste — leave that until marriage. That's what it's for.

Answer:
I'm 19 and I LOVE Vetiver... It really just depends on the person. She associates old man with that particular smell, so that's what she interpereted it as. Nothing wrong with your selection, something's wrong with HER! Haha!

which made me wonder... if Vetiver appropiate for a younger audience? I am roughly as old as you, and there are some scents I like pretty much but feel to young for. Vetiver is one of them, others would be Zino and Gucci ph. Maybe someday I'll get them, but for now I'll stick to what I have.

Answer:
I was around 20/21 when I got very interested in frags (before then I was using something that everyone was wearing or something that I received as a gift), and Guerlain Vetiver was the first frag that I liked out of hundreds I was trying then. I still thought that I should only have one fragrance and get another one only after this one is gone, so I seriously loved it.
I still adore it, some years and bottles later. And I always have a bottle of it.
I think the question is do you like it? If so, wear it for yourself. Especially if you have many in your wardrobe, which you can wear when your g/f is around.

Answer:
Do your health stores have essential oils? You should be able to get a vetiver oil bottle (probably 10 or 15 mL). Check that with your gf to see if the problem is with Guerlain Vetiver or vetiver period.

Answer:
Guerlain Vetiver is one that I can't wear because it doesn't work well with my chemistry. It went straight to my swap list. At first, I thought it was the vetiver note that didn't work for me. Then I tested MPG's Racine and found it quite wearable. Try some other vetiver scents vetiver essential oil as Radix suggested.

Answer:
I got a 5 ml bottle of Guerlain Vetiver, and wore it yesterday for the first time.
I'm 48, and I like it a lot. My wife is meh on it, and my assistant (late 30's)
HATES it.
I won't wear it for work now, because I am a nice boss, but I think it is
a scent I personally would have liked at any age.

I agree. I used to like Guerlain Vetiver, but lately it makes me retch. It is the only scent that does that. Try another vetiver--there are a lot of good ones out there.

Answer:
The problem might be over application, which can make the tobacco note quite prominent, and for many, tobacco + vetiver = barf !
Try MPG Racine as an alternative (excellent citrus dominant vetiver), or Original Vetiver, which is a brilliant easy to wear vetiver (after the soapy start, I get an excellent spices + vetiver accord)
