I think that the mistake made is not asking what fragrances get the most compliments, but thinking that wearing those fragrances will get you compliments. It all depends upon the person, and wearing $500 DKNY jeans won't get you compliments if you aren't nice to people. In general, people are very reserved about giving compliments about cologne, so don't think you don't smell good, just realize that a person isn't comfortable enough with you to give you compliments about how you smell. Wear what you wear for the smell of cologne, not for the possibility of someone saying "You smell nice". You're not being judgemental Trebor, you're being honest to someone who has asked this same question many times, just don't take it too hard G man.

OK. I'll tell you about an instance my dad related to me. I bought him Aqua de Bulgari to get him to put down the Acqua di Gio and try another aquatic scent. One day last spring, two young women followed him around the local Wal-Mart to find out what he was wearing. When the two women found the source of the scent they had been tracking, they told dad they loved the cologne he was wearing and had been following him around the store to ask him what it was. Dad said, "It's some cologne my son picked out for me. Bulgari Aqua or something like that." Apparently, it's Aqua de Bulgari that drives 'em wild in rural Alabama.
The following took place last spring at the local Wal-Mart in a small Alabama town:
The cologne-Aqua de Bulgari PH
2 .Your Age-My dad is 67.
3. The Age of the complimenter(s)-He referred to the young women as "girls", which could mean any age from 15 on up.
4. How many compliments-2
5. How many sprays you put on-Dad sprays until a sillage monster is born. (You should see him with Terre d'Hermes, makes me feel like I should be wearing hiking boots).
6. How long ago, in hours, did you spray the cologne on-I'm guessing about an hour or two before he left for Wal-Mart.
7. How far the complimenters were from you-They followed him around around the store for several minutes to ask him what he was wearing. Anywhere from several feet to arm's length is my guess.
8. do you use body oils, which, and where do you apply-Are you kidding? He uses a garden variety skin moisturizer.

Good lord, I have only been around here for a year or so, is almost everyone here between 17-24, I think I must be in the wrong place.
I am 50ish,
I have gotten a few, very few, compliments mostly for Knize Ten
I spray it, like everything very modestly, one or two shots, that's it.
But really, I think it's time for me to head for the hills or "the home"....
