Question:
i rue the day that helmut lang cuiron was discontinued. i loved this scent, and found it fresher and more contemporary then the powdery dry downs of royal english leather and knize ten (both of which i love).
is there a similar scent to HL cuiron?

Some say that Daim Blond has a Cuiron-esque feel. I don't think they are
very similar IMO.
I really like Jack Black Signature Black Mark - Saffron, Cedar, Leather, a tad of amber in the drydown. Really nice.
Heeley has a scent Fine Leather that you may find nice also. luckyscent.com
I am staying in in the 'FRESH' area here, but there are other true leather scents that are great, but not necessarily 'FRESH'.

To me S-Perfume S-ex and Creed Cuir de Russie are the freshest leathers out there, and I think the freshness there is due to the salty/aquatic accord they both have.

If you are wanting to spend a fair amount, Chanel's Cuir de Russie is also nice. For a more economical offering, Caswell-Massey's Persian leather is surprisingly light for a leather scent. I got some in a recent swap and have been pleasantly surprised. I think it's been discontinued, but drop me a PM if you want to give it a try.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day there is simply no substitute for Cuiron. I hope that in the next year or two, once the new clothing line has launched and has generated some sales, they will rerelease the fragrances and we can stop hoarding our small supplies.

I also want to put in a vote for Heeley's Fine Leather. It has a great floral quality (violet) that makes this more of a "green" leather (not the color green, but like growing plants). I thought this was exceptional.

The closest thing to a true "fresh" leather scent I can think of is Ferrari Passion. It's a bit on the woodsy side, but the leather notes are there. What really sets this apart from other woodsy/leather scents is that there is an "ozone" note which keeps it light and fresh. It really reminds of a brisk fall day, driving a Ferrari through the woods amongst the trees and autumn leaves... but cheapened down a bit I'm not a big fan of "ozone" notes, but this one doesn't bother me one bit. It's a decent scent, but probably really wouldn't hold a candle to your Cuiron.

on barry's advice i have re-stocked on Cuiron, although i can't help feeling that all i'm doing is delaying the agony when supply finally runs dry. i read on the web that david beckham placed an order for 20 flacons! i do hope that it is relaunched in the near future, but the pessimist in me is not holding out!
heeley's fine leather is intriguing, i'll certainly add that to my 'wish list'.
all in all though, it would appear that Cuiron is one of a kind.
