the too masculine Lutens scents for girls - Page 2
Question:
The nice SA gave me a couple of Arabie samples so I tested one on Sunday. It's neither particularly masculine or feminine. It's just incredibly spicy, but a slightly savoury spice the eventually warms and sweetens over time. I did not find it had the staying power of Ambre Sultan, however. I did test Bois Vanille but it was a back of the hand job so I'll need to test it again on my arm to get a good idea of its longevity. It was very nice. Actually I think I really need several visits to test the full range properly. Incidentally, if you're in the West End of London, I really recommend Fenwicks over Selfridges. Selfridges on a Saturday is like the seventh circle of hell. Fenwicks is a much quieter and more sane environment, and the Lutens section is arrange in a much nicer way (bottles arranged on the shelf with their testers, rather than testers dumped on a counter with SAs hovering over you). I've yet to visit Les Senteurs but will have to do so soon to check out the Malle selection (I have a yearning to try Noir Epices!) Answer: Chene, Daim Blond, Fumerie Turque, Iris Silver Mist, Ambre Sultan, and Chypre Rouge are among my favourite Lutens. So far I couldn't wear Douce Amere, or Miel du Bois, and Gris Clair is one of the exceptions in that I really do think I would prefer it on a man - although deep into the drydown I felt more comfortable in it. I was a little shocked at myself by thinking that though - I would say it is the first Serge Lutens scent I've felt that way about. Too feminine / masculine doesn't really occur to me about fragrances though, generally speaking. Some women like Equipage, it just didn't do it for me on my own skin though. I think I might prefer it on a man, but I can imagine a woman wearing it very well as well. There are a few I am still very much wanting to try - especially Encens et Lavande and Cedre. I want to try a few more 'Bois' scents too, although I do wear Feminite du Bois which I've heard bears some similarity to many of them. Answer: My favorite is Bois Oriental. It could be unisex but it is a sweet amber/woods, possibly too sweet for a man. I'm curious why it's never mentioned here. Does anyone else know it? I also think Amber Sultan is one of the best ambers around--suitable for either sex although my DH thinks it's too 'spicy'. Duh! That's why I like it!! Darn, it smells great on him. Answer: Up to now, the only one I tested which seemed really too masculine for my tastes is Gris Clair...but maybe it's because I associate lavender with scents marketed to men. Chêne and Bois Oriental are on my to-try list. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
