The Ultimate Rose Perfume ? - Page 2
Question:
YSL Paris! Answer: You ought to try the oft overlooked fragrance Donna by Lorenzo Villoresi. It's an amazing rose scent. Answer: I second Creed Fleur de The Rose Bulgare. It is the ultimate. nuff said! Answer: Une Rose by Frederic Malle as mentioned is an excellent rose. I grew roses and this has the ahhh let me linger and smell this rose lure. L'Eau D'Italie Paestum Rose is good also. Answer: Originally Posted by fredricktoo Une Rose by Frederic Malle as mentioned is an excellent rose. Paris, Voleur de rose, No88, rose poivre, floris etc... do not match it Answer: Alexander McQueen Kingdom? Perhaps not the ultimatest rose perfume, but still very good and interesting (plus very affordable) one! -T- Answer: Originally Posted by GGA Alexander McQueen Kingdom? I've wanted it for a while because it seems to have been one prior member's signature, and the frequent mentioning of that perfume raised some curiosity. He had an outstanding taste and knew next to everything about perfume . I didn't even know that it has rose. My favorite perfume 'with rose' will always be Joy (Patou), the EDP! A bit powdery, and in that quite a contrast to the 'green', refreshing, Paris, an uncomplicated rose smell. Similar to that, but more classical: Lutens, Sa Majestée La Rose, and one step further Edouard Fliéchiers noble Une Rose (Editions Malle). I would have thought, you know all of these, David. But I myself wonder how the Rose de Nuit is, one the latest Lutens perfumes, and uniscent. I personally prefer an honest, straight forward 'feminine' solifloral rose, jasmine, violet etc. to one muddled mess with rose in it like Iquitos, which they call a 'masculine'. Except for his Jasmine Full, a handicap for Piere Montale on western markets is, that his absolutely best fragrances are based on ouds or roses combined with ouds (for me they are all scent heaven). He uses various kinds in both. If I was a woman, or if Montale didn't offer this in any other combination, my first choice would be Aoud Queen Roses (what a suitable name, figure someone asks you...), or Damaskus. But it was Black Aoud I chose, and that's been designed for men anyway. Attar has less rose and oud oils and is generally seen as more wearable, I would assume. A later one, without oud is Roses Musk, a very recommendable dark rose perfume. C&S No. 88 is mainly C&S No. 88, and then a wonderfully dark rose mystery (net a mess!!) for men. I didn't understand it until after my Montale adventures. Now it's near the top of my must haves. Answer: For a clean photorealistic rose, pink and drenched in morning dew - nothing like Creed fleur de the rose bulgare. Second and third place go to Sa Majeste la Rose by Serge Lutens and L'Ombre dans L'Eau by Diptyque. For green roses that take off where Diptyque left off, try Chanel 19. For chic roses, dark red and romantic, YSL Paris is great. In the uber-rose category, where the rose is dark, leathery, black, honeyed, spiced or otherwise made sexy instead of its virginal pink rendering in the Creed, try Une Rose by Malle, Rive Gauche by YSL, Rose de Nuit by Serge Lutens, Voleur de Roses by L'Artisan, No.88 by C&S, Nahema by Guerlain or Or Et Noir by Caron. Rose also makes dramatic appearances in Chanel's Bois des Iles, L'artisan's Dzing!, SL Chergui, classical aldehydic boquets of Liu, No.5 etc., Caron's Tabac Blonde, Chanel's Antaeus and Egoiste among others. The whole line of Parfums de Rosine is dedicated to exploring this incredible smell in all its facets, although I am yet to try most of their offerings. The Creed though, is still my No.1 suggestion - and is what I expect a classic pure rose to smell like - even if my idea of a great rose fragrance that I would buy full bottles of is really in the dark, chypre category. If you can find a bottle of Houbigant's Aperçu (I think recently discontinued), check it out. The rose note is not very strong, but it's still noticeable and beautifully balanced with a green chypre. Worth a sniff for sure! Answer: Originally Posted by narcus My favorite perfume 'with rose' will always be Joy (Patou) Very hard to beat Joy! This was once the world's costliest perfume to make...
