Question:
I´m searching for the ultimate rose fragrance. I don´t mind if it´s a womens perfume, (I know many iranian and arabic men who sport pure rose oil and it really seems to compliment their masculine, hairy bodies)

Montale Aoud Rose Petals is a leathery rose. Montale Black Aoud is the same, only warmer and a bit sweeter at first. Both have luscious drydowns. Samples available at Aedes. Try others in the line, too. Gorgeous, sexy, dark, gothic.

I have tried 4 or five Rose based fragrances (all for men).
Rose 31 - Le Labo works for me because it is masculine. The Rose is there but always in the background. I like the cumin in it and the spices, but just my preference and opinion.
There are others that have the rose more in the forefront, but I personally can't wear those.
I would also like to mention Rose Poivree - Different Company...Rose, Pepper, Civet.
I guess I just enjoy my Roses 'STINKY'. I look forward to hearing other favorites from members.
Oh, I almost forgot Montale - Black Aoud. I am purchasing it from Vijay next Thursday. Can't wait!

For pure rose with velvety plumminess, absolutely try Voleur de Roses; for a similar scent to VdR taken in a cooler, dark, arguably hipper direction try C&S No. 88; for a similar scent to No. 88 with a pretty stinky opening try Black Aoud.

I love Egoiste and get the rose note in the drydown that I often read about, but I would hesitate to recommend it as a rose scent.

MY personal favourite rose scent is Rose Poivree. L'ombre dan l'eau (diptyque) would be my close second, as well as Une Rose by Frederic Malle. I'm not a fan of Le Labo's Rose 31, or any of the Montale fragrances, or Serge Lutens' Rose de Nuit, or Strange Invisibles' various rose scents. If, like you said, you're not worried about the scent being on the feminine side, I like the following:

-Rose Ikebana by Hermes
-Rose (Series 2) by Comme des Garcons
-Rose Barbare by Guerlain
-Sa Majeste La Rose by Serge Lutens

Parfums de Rosine also makes a whole line of rose scents, which seem to be popular...haven't tried any yet. Hope that helps!

but for just pure red roses ysl paris is absolutely unbeatable.
For a fresh new rose covered in dew creed fleur de the rose bulgare is the way to go
