L'air du Desert Marocain vs Lonestar Memories
Question:
L'Air du Desert Morocain is a masterpiece by Tauer, no doubt about this. But the frag that I would really like to know more about is Lonestar Memories. I knew that when I read the description of L'air, that it was for me. Now that I have recieved it I am so very happy with it. BUT, how is Lonestar Memories? Does it really make you think of a lone cowboy in the middle of the rugged west. Does it make you think of Brokeback Mountain, Heath Ledger, and that Jake character?

Answer:
There are similarities between the two fragrances. Marina at Perfume-Smellin' Things coined the term "Tauer-ade" much like Guerlain's Guerlinade. He definitely has a house note. Lonestar Memories is a masterpiece. It is breathtakingly smoky. No, this doesn't remind me of cowboys (I am from Oklahoma, originally), because there are no sweaty B.O. notes. It is smoky like a fire and it's loaded with sage which makes me think of New Mexico where I picked wild sage and made smudge sticks one year. On my skin, this opening stage didn't last long, maybe an hour or an hour and a half. It ends with a wonderful myrrh accord that I can't get enough of. The ingredients are listed as:
Green and spicy head notes:
Geranium, Carrot seed, Clary sage
Smoky leathery heart notes:
Birchtar, Cistus, Jasmine, Cedar wood
Fine woody body notes:
Myrrh, Tonka, Vetiver, Sandalwood
I guess I should say that it reminds me of New Mexico at first with the smoke and sage. The middle stages are a smooth mix of jasmine and myrrh and vetiver. The base notes are a wonderful woody/incense accord that as I said before I can't get enough of. This lasts forever and has great sillage. For me this is definitely full bottle worthy or FBW. The base notes of both L'air and Lonestar are similar (not identical but very similar) but I like Lonestar the best. I think it's in my top 5 of all time.

Answer:
I have yet to try Lonestar Memories on my skin but I had to answer your thread.

Upon first spritz of Lonestar Memories my first and only thought was: "Beef Jerky!"

Subsequent sniffings on paper have done little to lessen or remove that impression. It is very 'meaty'. I must say though that there is a consistent signature which sings through all of Andy Tauer's blends so if you love one you will probably love the others. Lonestar Memories is very masculine and recalls L'air du desert Marocain (minus the complex spices and incense).

Lonestar Memories is not as demanding and dramatic as L'air du desert Marocain but just as substantial and unique. if you are male and love L'air du desert Marocain then I would definitely recommend you try Lonestar Memories. It is like the day to L'air du desert Marocain 's night.

I have tried both and chose LDDM over Lonestar. There is more tar (house note?) in Lonestar - A LOT more. That, and the smoke differentiates the two I think. See my "Cuiron vs. Lonestar Memories" thread for my review.
/showt...light=Lonestar
The best way that I can sum it up is that Lonestar dries down to a long-lasting smoke and birchtar gourmand... I have a gently used 2.5ml sample I will send you for free if you PM me your mailing address. If you hate it, pay it forward to someone else...

Paul Verrry cool!! PM sent!

Answer:
Moondeva...yes, beef jerky!!! It does have a very smoky and meaty opening. This is not for the timid and safe. I am going to be laughing about that for a long time!

Answer:
Having established my distaste for Tauer's business acumen and practices, I have to say if Lonestar Memories is anything like L'Air du Desert Marocain, well then, I have to doff my cap. Marlen at perfumecritic.com gave LM a perfect 10.

Answer:
I opened my sample of LM on my way to the library. Once I had received my books, I settled myself at a free space at one of those huge wooden tables where people sit quietly over their studies. Something was different this time, and I first didn't get what it was. I first felt, than saw one or the other person in that room looking at me, to the point of staring. I am still grateful for the fact that no conversations are to be held in the reading room!
What's a masterpiece for some, can be pretty dreadful to others. Depending on mood, the first half hour may be pleasant. But when that cloying sweetness really sets in, I want nothing more than fresh air around my face. That is, however, not always possible, unless I were a truck driver, farmer, or delivered express mail in the city.

Answer:
Lonestar Memories has a very minty sensation going on. My girlfriend even thinks of stale toothpaste, something I can't say I agree with but can see wwy she would lay down a comment like that about it. Looking at the notes, I have no idea where it comes from.

Answer:
The "campfire"topnotes are a bit too much and pungent for me too handle most of the times.., but if you can keep up with that, I love the drydown.
