Relaunching Incense by Matthew Williamson
Question:
I read that Matthew Williamson is launching about four new fragrances, around the beginning of March. (a series) One of them is called Incense, which he had out years ago, but was discontinued. Has anybody heard about this, or has anyone sampled this fragrance before, when it was first out? If so, what did it smell like? Was it as good as it sounds?

Answer:
Wow, what a coincidence... minutes before I read this post I was reading a magazine article about this! Apparantly all the fragrances in the series are inspired by Matthew Williamson's favourite holiday destinations. Others in the series are Lotus, Warm Sand and Jasmine Sambac.. they were designed to be worn alone or layered together. Unfortunately I haven't tried them yet but I love the sound of Warm Sand, inspired by Morocco!

To my nose MW Incence smells similar to Tam Dao, but more rose-y and refined and of course with more incense. I liked Incense a lot but it was already sold out, when I got my sample, so to me this re-release of it is a very good thing
Thx for the info btw!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think it is a relaunch. I think it just happens to be a new launch with the same name. I've not seen anything that confirms its the same from the PR company, and AFAIK the perfumer is different too.

The new incence is pretty nice, but I've not tried the discontinued version and so cannot compare for you.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Answer:
To BASENOTES ADMINISTRATOR: All I know is what I read, that he is putting out four different scents in a group. One of them is called Incense, which is the same name his previous scent was called. Is it the same notes? I don't know, but assume it is the same or similiar. Just like when any other designer or company discontinues something & brings it back with the same name. Did they keep it exactly the same? Don't know...but doesn't seem to be any different than when most people "relaunch" a fragrance.

Answer:
Its not a relaunch. As I understand it, the Incense comes as part of a collection of 4 fragrances - warm sands, lotus, incense and jasmine sambac - each one from a tropical distant holiday that Matthew Williamson has been inspired by. I've tried the incense on my left wrist and the warm sands on my right... it dries down to this divine combination - when I went back to Selfridges they explained the concept was if you wanted to, you could layer all 4 and you would get the original signature perfume... so I tried and compared and it was true, I bought Incence and Warm Sands because I did like the smell which reminded me of a warm beach, salty and reassuring - It launched in Selfridges London last month because I noticed the window display on Oxford St. It will also come in a limited collection box for you to display all 4 on your table. And I think she mentioned Sheer comes out soon as well

He had out a scent called Incense a few years ago, that was discontinued, so MAYBE he is (reintroducing) including it into his new collection. Whew...cut a girl some slack...lol...
