Are these "anytime" fragrances?
Question:
I've been wearing colognes for a few years now; however, only recently have I started reading up and trying to do some educated buying as far as sillage and what cologne is for what occasion. The 3 colognes I have right now are Givenchi Pi, Marc Jacobs & Gucci II. I know a few guys around my age (20-25) that wear Pi all the time, but I'm thinking it might be too sweet to wear at work. I never really thought about something like that until last year when I started wearing Rochas Man and my coworkers kept asking where the cotton candy was. I know Rochas isn't the same as Pi, but they're pretty close to me. Marc Jacobs is not as cloyingly sweet, but I always seem to think the fragrance disappears after an hour or so. I just got Gucci II tonight and I really like it, plus it's already lasted quite a few hours on my wrists.
Well anyways, I wanted to ask if these were good anytime fragrances or if some are more suited for intimate settings or summer/winter. Also, if anyone has recommendations for a different cologne, feel free.

Answer:
I'm a relative noob, one could easily say 'fragrance-ignorant' (Though there's a strong subjective aspect to what's "Good"), not to mention that I've lost 50% of my sense of smell to chronic sinusitis...
Thus, I'll go right the hell ahead and give my opinions, anyway.
My current favorite summer (And probably 'anytime', though I've yet to wear it in winter) is Guerlain Vetiver. It's one of the polarizing scents that some love and some loathe, but I find it to be an excellent versatile scent, and rather inexpensive to boot. (Got my 2.5oz for 20 bucks). Reminds me a good deal of my dad's shaving soap, but that was 1970-something and might pre-date your nose.
I would normally cringe at the notes of Givenchy Pi, as I've not generally been a fan of those vanilly-sweet scents. However, Guerlain's Habit Rouge changed my mind. I loved it, my girlfriend rather aggressively loved it, etc.
For a more 'evening/romantic' sort of scent, I'm likely to break out Michael for Men by Michael Kors. Spices, tobacco, and a semi-sweet hint of dried fruit... real 'boozy' scent. More expensive online, but I found my bottle locally for under 25 bucks. Dolce & Gabanna pour Homme is another good option, here, IMO -- More citrus than spice on top, but also has a tobacco base.
Throwing down more cash on the table, my favorite 'Higher Dollar' scent at the moment is Erolfa, Creed's marine scent. Never having technically been around an ocean, I can't vouch for the 'Marine' accuracy, but I love the scent despite not quite being able to describe it in appropriate nautical terms. Close second, also by Creed, is Cypres-Musc. Think 'Evergreen Forest'. (I'm NOT a big fan of Creed longevity, though.)
Recently been testing Antaeus, which tends to come highly recommended for a 'Romantic'. I do like it, but I'm not entirely sold on the drydown. For a good while, there's something about it that reminds me of a darker, dryer Habit Rouge, but they part ways and head in different directions after a couple hours with HR taking on a very powdery/vanilla feel and Antaeus holding on to a woodier accord.

Hej Neji,
I can understand ones concern when trying to choose scents that they feel best suit an occasion or that are for everyday use.
Personally speaking, I think it most important first and foremost, that you arent shy of trying new, daring or different scents for any given occasion. Ultimately, I assume you wear fragrance primarily for your own personal enjoyment, and perhaps for the enjoyment of a partner secondarily... but what makes choosing and wearing a series of scents a PERSONAL experience is not really giving a rat's-bum about what other people think!
Short of funerals/wakes/hospitals, I cant imagine any occasion where it might be wise to follow a fragrance "standard".
The three scents you picked are all winners. Try each of them at different times and see what suits your tastes best. You'll find that taste will evolve as time passes.
Perhaps some you will find work best, or result in positive comment when worn at different times and in different climates.
Just enjoy the journey each scent has to offer you! Remember, hundreds of thousands of other people wear your scent, but only a small percentage of wearers have the gumption to step outside the norm and wear them in new and exciting ways, or in a manner that is personal to them.

Answer:
Thanks for your help guys. Yea Demetri, I hear what you're saying about not caring what other people think. Sometimes just getting one negative comment on a cologne will make me cross it off my list, but ultimately I'm the one who's gonna be smelling it the most. I do care what my partner has to say tho, cuz he wears B Brit and I love it on him. It's his signature smell and I want something similar. I don't want to get rid of my cologne wardrobe, but I want to have a "main" cologne.

Welcome to Basenotes Neji
Please try:
Terre d'Hermes by Hermes
Dior Homme by Dior
Paco Rabanne Black XS by Paco Rabanne
Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens
These 4 should dazzle you and your partner - they're different than anything you own, very complex scents (they don't just stay the same, they kind of evolve as they stay on your skin) and they're distinctive. The Serge is a little pricey, but its worth it. And mind you, the Dior Homme has 'iris' in it, so its got this minimal floral note thing going on...a lot of guys love it though (even though I cannot wear it myself).
Good luck.

Answer:
Thanks Mike, yea, I really need to check out Terre d'Hermes. I keep seeing that mentioned on here, as well as Musc Ravegeur and the Lutens. I work in a mall that only has the deparment stores Lord and Taylor & Macy's and they both seem to be pretty limited as far as unique colognes are concerned. I like going into stores like Saks, Neimans and Nordstroms, but I think I need to go by myself because I've annoyed enough people dragging them along on cologne spraying sprees.
The lutens are all unisex correct? I get so confused reading the reviews sometimes because I see guys talking about how it's masculine and dirty, then another comment will say it's a nice scent for a confident woman in her 50's. lol

Answer:
you should wear any fragrance that MOST importantly makes you feel good that by definition is an anytime fragrance and it is also nice to know that the fragrance you wear is appreciated by others so if people are complementing you you know you have a double winner- experiment and enjoy no rules.

Answer:
I also agree with Dimitri, but personally I would go with Gucci PH II as "anytime" fragrance.
Pi is better for evening wear.

Answer:
Hey Neji - try Sage by Sage, wonderful everyday, not too sweet but definitely sensual. The cotton candy remark would have gotten to me, too.... I think what Dimitri said is good advice - wear what you want, when you want (excepting hospitals, etc) BUT another thing to consider is sillage - is your perfume wearing you? I want a man's body scent to show through a bit... MsT
