I currently wear Jean Paul Gaultier Classique EDT but want to try something different. I always go to the nearest Sephora and try to compare scents with my beloved JPG but nothing ever comes close. I would like to look into the more "niche" fragrances that not everyone wears and is pretty exclusive. I would love to find out what scents you ladies get the most compliments on.
Any recs would be appreciated.

Welcome Bashful!!! (But as a native Manhattanite, I gotta say that the idea of anyone from NYC being bashful is too funny! ) So good to have you aboard - I am sure you'll find lots of fun and info here.
Why not take yourself downtown to Aedes de Venusta on Christopher Street and sniff away??!! And/or the perfume counters at Bergdorf's, Bendel and Barney's? Among them they carry most of the niches you'd ever want to try.
I'm not familiar with JPG Classique but I'm sure the more experienced noses here on BN who are can point you in the right direction.

If you live in New York how close to you live to the city? If you live in NYC your fragrance possibilities are endless and what are you doing hanging out in Sephora ! I practically break out in a cold sweat when I think of what I would do if I lived in NYC. I would recommend checking out the Caron Boutique, there is a Caron for everybody. Good luck!

JPG Classique is also among my favouritesI'm not sure if others agree on this,but on me and to my nose Chergui by Serge Lutens does seem a bit similar with JPG. More complex,though.Other frags you might wanna test is Trouble by Boucheron and perhaps Voleur de Roses and L'heure bleue by Guerlain.

Well if you want to try something different, rather than something similar, I recommend you just do some extensive testing and sampling. Only you know what appeals to you, after all!
