Do plastic bottles or decants ruin a scent over time?

I've done a search on this topic and havent come up with anything definitive. I'm switching to plastic decants because of the recent news that ED Luce is discontinuing the sale of their 10ml frosted glass atomizers. I realize that the plastic ones are nearly impossible to wash off and reuse with another frag but I dont care about that, plastic decants are so inexpensive that it wont matter. Has anyone actually had first-hand experience of a scent going bad in a plastic bottle or decant? Thanks for any help. Answer: I've never had a frag go bad, but don't count on using one for more than one fragrace. I filled one bottle with Michael Kors after previously containing Acier Aluminum (I thoroughly cleaned it out). The ambergris basenotes of the AA are still detectable when I spray on the Kors, but I don't mind it because it adds even more depth to this wonderful juice! Answer: No problems with scents going bad (that i've noticed), but they definitely leak worse than the glass ones, especially when they fall on their sides and stay that way for more than a day or two. The seal on top just isn't as secure in my experience. Answer: Thanks guys. Answer: The following qualifies for a GEEK FACTOR = 7.0 ("buyer beware" ): From a strictly scientific POV, anything extremely acidic should be kept in glass, while anything that's very basic/alkaline should be stored in plastic (polypropylene and not polystyrene). That's how such chemical reagents are shipped/stored in the scientific world. For example, a process called "glass corrosion" occurs with the latter combination, which will lead to a murky precipitant in the solution over time. A similar process occurs with certain types of glass with the former, but this tends to be less noticeable in the contained solution (although it does become quite apparent in the glass vessel itself). That being said, you shouldn't worry about any interaction between either material with your "scent", for it's (hopefully) always pretty close to being neutral in pH.
