Perfume The Story Of a Murderer- movie
Question:
Hey all,
Amidst all these discussions on Colognes and perfumes- I'd like to get your attention to a recent movie- titled " Perfume The Story Of a Murderer" starring Dustin Hoffman and Ben Wishaw-
The movie is based on a very popular novel titled "Perfume" penned by Patrick Süskind.
The story revolves around Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, whose incomparable sense of smell and inexplicable lack of a personal scent isolates him from society. Obsessed with the rich sensory world he alone inhabits, his single objective in life becomes the preservation of the perfect scent: His work, however, takes a dark turn as he tries to preserve scents in the search for the ultimate perfume.
I just finished seeing the movie- and I sincerely suggest you to make it a point to see this movie.
It was a truly enriching experience for me
Cheers
Zeph

There was a thread about 2 months ago when it was released.
I must say the movie is one of the best movies to come out in years.
Director Tom Twyker + Author Patrick Sueskind = Masterpiece

Answer:
The film was good, but the book is much better. So much more detailed. I read it before I saw the film and as a result was slightly dissapointed with the screen version.

I don't think they've chosen to show it here in my area, guess I'll have to wait for the video, but I'm still salivating at Mugler's coffret based on the movie.

...just for smell purposes of course... I started wanting to do that 45 years before DVD's were a staple. I still like doing it.
Anyway, at the bottom of the page are links to discussions about the book and movie. Thierry Mugler also released a "coffret" of scents that would illustrate olfactorily parts of the story.

I just saw this movie for the first time last week courtesy of pay-per-view in my San Francisco hotel , and your comments echo my own thoughts to a "T"! At the same time the movie was quite long, there was a level of detail considerably lack from that represented in the book.
