Le Labo Patchouli 24
Question:
I ended up with an unsolicited 10ml decant of this stuff tossed in for freebies with the bottle of Mare I'd recently ordered. Wow. This might be a bit slanted toward the Random Central Texan demographic, but I'm pretty strongly reminded of the scent those Jack Daniels wood chips give off when you're using them to smoke a pig/goat/cow sector. In a good way. Wood and smoke is what I get for the most part -- Not so much on the patchouli. I'm not sure about the vanilla notes I've read about... I usually associate vanilla with 'sweet' and I get nary a sweetness on this one. That said... I'm wondering how well similarly smoky/dry/woody fragrances would sit with me. Lonestar Memories? Yatagan, maybe? Definitely has my nose sniffing in a slightly different direction... Answer: I love those 'wood chip' notes...I can't WAIT to sniff this scent, I've heard lots of good things about it. Answer: Never thought I could wear a scent this smoky but this one works very well for me. Patchouli 24 is quite the misnomer because the presence of a patchouli note is pretty much a rumor at best. The opening is disturbing at times because it reminds me of smoked sausage, which only lasts a few minutes. Lots of birch tar and smoke in the middle and the smoky vanilla drydown wins me over every time I wear it. Bold and unapologetic like the other six Le Labo fragrances I have worn. Answer: A Cleverly crafted scent....which is why it pains me to say that I hate this one....it just does not work with my skin...not at all....However, the other Le Labo scents are superb IMO...my faves being Rose 31 and Bergamot 22. Answer: there's nothing I find terribly interesting in this concoction. lot's of wood that would probably layer really well with a rose scent.
