Must Haves ? - Page 3
Question:
What a great fragrance list you have there. I would knock off one of the bvlgari's, the Dunhill, and A*Men which I find tacky and somewhat offensive (especially since your other evening fragrances are already awesome). I wish I had a list like that when I started, I would've saved a lot of time and money. Answer: Interesting thing is that i have this list but only know bvlgari pour homme until now. Before i started this topic i did read a lot in this forum and in the reviews "this is a must have" and decide to make a topic with must haves. OK this topic could be longer, and i had to write a lot to up it. Will test them now at the next time and will write then again :-) Did read at artofman.com.au in beginners guide following: "But keep it lean – a collection of 3-4 fragrances will be sufficient to cover most situations. One for work/daily use (e.g. Aromatic), one for the weekend (e.g. Woody), one for special occasions (e.g. Oriental), and perhaps one for the gym bag or to keep in your office (e.g. Fresh)." OFFICE Bvlgari Pour Homme (1995 Woody-Floral musk / All Seasons / Classy / daytime) Armani Eau PH (1984 Citrus-Aromatic / romantic wear / Refined) Guerlain Vetiver (2000 Woody-Aromatic / daytime / Classy / longlasting) CASUAL Paco Rabanne XS (1993 Woody-Floral musk / daytime / Summer) Terre D'Hermes (2006 Woody-Spicy / All Seasons) SMARTCASUAL Patricia de Nicolaï New York (1989 Oriental-Woody / light but long lasting / any season / evening) Rive gauche YSL (2003 Aromatic-Rustic / ~OldSpice / longlasting / more suitable for autumn/colder weathers / day&evening) FORMAL Gucci Pour Homme (2003 Woody-Spicy / Fall-Winter / Stylish / longlasting / evening) Dior HOMME (2005 Woody - Floral musk / longlasting / romantic) Guerlain Heritage (1992 Woody-Spicy / also smart casual / similar to envy but not soo sweet & zino / 40+ age group) Antaeus Chanel (1981 Woody-Chypre / Refined-Edel (not for everyday) / longlasting) EVENING/NIGHT Gucci Envy (1998 Oriental-Woody / All Seasons / Sexy) YSL M7 (2002 Oriental-Woody / Fall-Winter / longlasting / romantic-evening) Answer: Quite an interesting process you've employed!!!! (???) First, I'd also like to welcome you to the fragrance world's most comprehensive Internet site. You've made a wise choice in soliciting the opinions from all corners of the globe (pretty cool, huh? ) Regarding one of your initial concerns...cost. If you were to actually calculate the cost of 1 day's use of a fragrance, I think you'll find it to be far less than a cup of coffee or a pack of smokes...not to mention libations, dining out, etc., so don't allow the cost to be the determining factor as to whether you buy a frag or not. Bois du Portugal is probably 20 times the cost of Dunhill edition, but I own both. My personal recommendation would be to select 5-6 frags from your list and find samples either from a supplier here or from your local department store and try them for several days before committing to buy anything. Based on your original post, you've received some very sound advice thus far, however, many of the recommendations will leave you smelling like many other people you know. I think you'd be happier finding something a little more obscure and distinctive. I'm not sure if these have been posted yet, but I'd recommend Geir...a little goes a lonnnnnng way and it could be a little aggressive. Lalique pour Homme, light and pleasant Casharel pour L' Homme, a little bolder than Lalique, but again...pleasant Parfums de Nicholai New York, Nice evening wear and generally inoffensive. And the one "must have" and get it while you still can or kick yourself in the butt for not buying it is....Patou pour Homme. It's a true can't miss frag. If you don't like it, buy it as an investment. Either way, you can't lose. I hope I didn't complicate your decision making process further. Umm, Oh yeah... You might hook up with some Knize Ten? I haven't seen it available anywhere in quite a while...except in Germany. You might want to try that one too. *edit* fundamental error Answer: thanks, you are right, itīs nothing special to list & buy "must haves" but for one who donīt have expiriences with fragrances itīs difficult to understand which is better or not. The recommendations and infos at basenote are really very helpfull to have an direction, and another argument is the money, cause i cannot spend to much now so it is for me important to have the right list. Another point is that it is now for me not so important to use a fragrance that no body have, it could be an argument but for now i am happy with good fragrances which i want to use cause i like them. i donīt know Knize Ten but will try this and your other recommandations at the next time, too. thanks. At most terre de hermes, so wonderfull, really, i canīt desribe this parfume, i have to buy it first. YSL M7 ( our 2007 evening award winner ) little bit like azarro ph, but much classier. i canīt wait to buy them but i have to wait, to have the money, yes and i have this month Birthday, so i donīt need do buy all of the list.
