Can You Recommend A Cologne For The "Sophisticated" Man, But That's Under $100 - Page 2
Question:
I would recommend "Floris Santal." I think this would be perfect for what your looking for. I'm not really good at describing notes in colognes however, I'm sure someone on here can describe it. I have a contact person who can send you several samples of Santal including the shave cream, aftershave balm etc. She can send these to you free and she will pay shipping as well. I know that some individuals compare it to Gucci Envy, however I would say that Santal is more refined and a little more sophisticated. Also not many people wear Santal. Here's some contact info: Debra Courtright Email address:florisoflondon@pobox.com Floris of London 127A Roseland Avenue Caldwell, NJ 07006 866-416-2649 toll free 973-618-9289 fax www.florislondon.com Hope this helps. Answer: Of the three I mentioned, only Must de Cartier has a tobacco note and none of them are what I'd call "tobacco family" frags at all. Below I'll post some reviews I find particularly spot on for each of the three though, to give you a better idea of what they're about: Boucheron Pour Homme Eau De Parfum: *Boucheron Pour Homme*, especially the EDP version, is, without doubt, one of the finest and most elegant of formal colognes on the market. It’s skillfully and attractively constructed and blended, with a beautiful and true verbena note on top and a bold measure of florals in the middle (Carnation Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Lily of the Valley,) along with a classic, solid combination of Vetiver, Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Oakmoss in the base which gives it depth and duration. The florals in the middle augment its distinctiveness and presence and add to *Boucheron Pour Homme’s* refinement. If you have any reservations about these florals, don’t; they’re very skillful blending and the carefully balanced proportions ensure that the fragrance remains resolutely masculine. It’s the perfect fragrance choice for a suit, and you’ll find that the EDP version, especially, has excellent longevity and steady output. The trick with this one is not to over spray. If you do, you overload on the patchouli and oakmoss, which tend to drown out the top and middle notes and can make the whole experience of wearing the fragrance unbearable. Another word of caution, and this pretty much applies to most fragrances that contain patchouli or oakmoss. Such fragrances never take kindly to being sprayed on anything else except clean skin. Spray *Boucheron Pour Homme* on yourself even a couple of hours after a shower, and you’ll get and entirely different and sometimes quite ugly fragrance. Patchouli and Oakmoss are the bad boys of fragrance ingredients. They always misbehave and are usually on their best behavior when you practice strict discipline. To conclude: with *Boucheron Pour Homme*, less is always best; with the EDP version, even less it better. -- scentemental Givenchy Gentleman: Gentleman is one of the smoothest classics ever made. It's a rich, woody chypre with an abundance of civet. It even contains violet ionones which are curiously absent from most men's fragrances. Top: Bergamot, Tarragon, Lemon, Rose, Honey Middle: Cedar, Jasmine, Orris, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Vetiver Base: Amber, Leather, Moss, Civet, Musk, Vanilla If you want citrus, look to Monsieur de Givenchy and others, because the only sign of citrus in this one lies in the first few minutes of the top notes. --pluran Must de Cartier pour Homme: Very elegant and long lasting but in a soft way (a fragrance for oneself as it don't leave a trail behind one). The anise note stays until the end and the tonka beans gives the soft oriental drydown (less oriental than vanilla). Sandalwood also can be smelled as a base, without turning it in a woody fragrance. -- F Frez Answer: Qualified with a leather note, I'd say: Baldessarini Jean Pascal Aramis Answer: Classy+Stylish=Kiton Renato Answer: What say we throw Micahel for Men by Michael Kors into the mix? Mmmm... Pipe Tobacco. Doesn't have D&G's citrus blast on top, though -- Spices, Tobacco, little bit of dried plum for a touch of sweetness. All that, and I picked up my bottle for under 25 bucks at the grocery store. Answer: Polo (Green) is worth a try, I think. Answer: Quite frankly, practically all the frags you will find at a department store, unless you're going to Neiman Marcus will be within your price range. I don't think you need to worry too much about blowing the limit. I'd go with: Baldessarini Pasha Quorum (always a risk, definitely love it or hate it) Burberry for Men Miracle Homme Worth Pour Homme Dunhill for Men (2003) New York (Parfums de Nicolai) K Answer: Richard James Saville Row EDT Answer: Bvlgari Extreme http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120271.html Answer: I would suggest Boucheron's Jaipur instead of Boucheron PH on personal preference for Jaipur's spices and powder over PH's tart citrus. Geir is a wonderful all-purpose fragrance, clean and sophisticated. Gucci Envy is spicy and intoxicating. Varvatos Vintage might fight your bill really well, it has a very smooth Turkish tobacco note, very gentlemanly. Jaipur, Envy, and Vintage are going to be in many department stores, if you are interested in trying them and/or want to avoid internet sales. Geir is not as common, but is at Nordstrom.
