Newbie trying to find a fragrance that's woody but sweet - Page 2
Question:
I think this strays a bit from the exact notes you mentioned, but what about Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental? On me it's earthy, woody green with chocolate--so much depth, very sophisticated. I tested a Susanne Lang last night that sounds like your description: Tamboti Wood, sweet, light, and woody. My nose often detects the exact opposite of what it should, so take my suggestions with a grain of salt (whiff of coffee beans?). I'm still learning. Answer: you might wanna take a look at Jasmin de Nuit by different company. "Egyptian jasmin, amber, blackcurrant, star anise, spices, cinammon, cardamom, sandalwood" Answer: Welcome Wearw, Others have given some great suggestions and I apologise in advance if I annoy by resuggesting what has been before. A few 'sweet, woody' feminine scents that I own, or have enjoyed in the past, include: Chopard Mira Bai Moschino Couture! Gucci Eau de Parfum Dior Hypnotic Poison Guy Larouche Fidji Hugo Boss Hugo Deep Red Paul Smith Extreme Serge Lutens Gris Clair - only if you love lavender. Answer: Bois des Iles would be one to try. Also, With Love by Hilary Duff might be one. It's sweet and woody and fairly easy to find. Answer: NUITS De SCHERRER edp is a woody/almondy scent worth trying. Answer: Wow, thank you everyone for all your answers and suggestions! You're all very sweet and helpful. Thank you! I was out again today, sniffing away at all the perfumes with my husband (who instantly fell for Armani He for himself). I realized that I really enjoy Euphoria by Calvin Klein and I'm considering buying that one first. It's very good on my skin and last forever on me. I need to start somewhere Do you guys think that Euophoria could suit me? Does it suit someone my age (26)? I read some reviews that said that it was better for a bit older women. I want an every day scent, that works both with every day wear of black jeans and a casual top, and an evening dress. I also liked Emporio Armani She and She Remix. I tried She Remix on my skin but it faded in a few hours, while Euphoria on my other wrist still smells wonderfully now, many hours later. I tried Hypnotic Poison which my sister loves, but it was a bit too sweet to my taste, it's possible that it's less sweet after a cooldown, I only tried it on paper. I've seen Prada (new), Diorella and Samsara mentioned a lot on basenotes and on the web when looking for scents similar to CK Euphoria, so I'm curious about them, but I didn't find them at the shop I was in today, but it isn't specialiced in perfumes. I'm going to look in the "real" perfume shop next time. purplebird 7: By "woody" I meat the lighter woods, I like both sandalwood and cedarwood. I'm not very good at scents and picking out ingredients yet, but I'm learning indiscreet, pierre obsidienne and Arhianrad: thank you all for telling me about Serge Lutens scents. It feels promising that you all suggested his smells and the vanilla and wood sounds great! Are any of his scents widely available or do they need to be ordered? Quarry, thank you for reminding me that the journey is something to be enjoyed. My husband is travelling overseas tomorrow for a week and I wanted him to buy a perfume for me in the airport taxfree shops on his way back, that would knock of at least 30% of the price. That's why I'm searching extra intensly right now. Once again, thank you everyone for your help. I'll keep you posted on which ones I liked. Maybe that will help others with the same taste I know that it really helps me to read what others enjoy with similar tastes. At first I enjoyed my Euphoria sample, but after wearing it a second and third day, its never-say-die basenotes wore out their welcome on me, lingering not just 24 hours later, but 24 hours plus a shower later. But that could just be me. Answer: While you're disregarding age references, do the same for gender and try some men's fragrances. Givenchy Very Irresistible for Men has notes of Mint, Grapefruit Peel, Mocha, and Hazelenut wood. It's quite nice. Answer: Wearw - Several stores in London stock Lutens so you might find some department stores in Stockholm that do. Also, try www.lessenteurs.com - you can order samples from there so you can try before you buy. Note that only the export range are available outside of Paris, but I'd recommend getting samples of Un Bois de Vanille, Miel de Bois, Rousse (not listed on the website yet but they do have it) and Cedre, plus I'd also recommend getting a sample of Musc Ravageur, which also contains woods, spices and vanilla. Hypnotic Poison is definitely one to try on your own skin. The initial blast is quite sweet but on me it dries down to something a lot more tasteful and understated. I like it a lot. Answer: Hi and welcome Wearw! My all time favourite with vanilla, sandalwood, bergamot is Must de Cartier. Cristobal Balenciaga or Shalimar might fit the bill, too.
