Serge lutens edp or edt?
Question:
Friends i would like to know if serge lutens come only in edp strength or do they come as edt's too?

Would the ones that come in a bell jar always be eau de parfum & splashes?

The ones that come in a straight bottle (50ml) would be eau de parfum or edt & would they always be spray bottles?

Am a novice when it comes to niche frags. Please help.

Answer:
As far as I know, all SL's are EDP strength - a few are also available in the "haute concentration" (somewhere between EDP and parfum)

The bell jars are 2.5 oz. splashes, the export rectangular bottles are 1.69 oz. splashes that come with atomizer tops.

Serge lutens are mostly EDPs. I say mostly because they did briefly make other strengths available:
Eau Fraiche - this was the EDT version of some of the stronger blends (namely Ambre Sultan, Chergui, etc)
Fond de Parfum - this was a specific strength to layer with the original EDP in order to increase strength and longevity. A 'booster' base. Or to wear alone by those whose who found the top notes and strength of the EDP too much. The Fond de parfum was a softer, subtle blend that focused on the base notes.

To my limited knowledge, both of these strengths are no longer available. Maybe they are available in store at:

Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido
142 Galerie de Valois
25 rue de Valois
75001 Paris
France
or by phone:
Tel: 33 (0) 1 49 27 09 09 (Dial 011 33 and then the rest of the number without the 0 after the country code)

Haute Concentration (somewhere between EDP and parfum). As zztop & Ruggles confirmed below, there has been a new formulation added for a few of their releases. The scents in this line / strength are Chypre Rouge, Cedre, Daim Blond.

Would the ones that come in a bell jar always be eau de parfum & splashes?
Again, to my limited knowledge, all bell jars are EDP strength and are splash bottles. I have heard that there are attachments available to make it a spray but they are rather expensive and often omitted from the order. It is simpler to decant some of the jus into a spritz bottle for personal use as and when needed.

The ones that come in a straight bottle (50ml) would be eau de parfum or edt & would they always be spray bottles?
All 50ml bottles are EDP (though the Fond de Parfum & Eau Fraiche strengths were also in this size).
They are all splash bottles but are sold with a spray attachment included.

I do hope that this has been of some help. By the way, which Serge Lutens scents are you interested in?

Moondeva thanks very much for putting in such an effort to elucidiate such finer details about serge lutens.

gupts That's funny because they were also my first two Lutens frags. I still love Arabie, but Daim Blond and I had a falling out, so I swapped it out. I added Santal de Mysore to my collection and love it.
Good luck with your SL adventure.

to complete that it 's been purposely created as higher concentration for formulas using very subtle and volatile ingredients, the end result of this EDP Haute Concentration is soft skin scents that are more lasting but not "stronger" or headier than regular EDP.
this is the explanation they give at les salons du Palais Royal Shiseido but there was also an introductory article on EDP HC when they released Daim Blond. Serge Lutens claimed leather in 'perfumery' doesn 't sell so he wanted to create a very ladylike leather.

Arabie is my next Serge Lutens purchase (I only own Ambre Sultan & Borneo) - have been admiring it for a while now...

Answer:
moondeva: many thanks for the information - I never knew there was an Eau Fraiche version of some of these SL frags. Interesting stuff!
Ruggles: yeah, I'm currently unsure about Daim Blond myself - sometimes I love it, sometimes it's just too feminine for me.
mikeperez23: Santal de Mysore is next on my 'to buy' list (I'll be in Paris next month), and Arabie is nothing short of superb - it may not be as warm as Chergui or sexy as Fumerie Turque but its complexity makes up for it in spades.

Tried Rousse today, and am very intrigued by it. Still $100 for 50ml is a lot I think. The only time I paid that was when I bought Antico Caruso, and I must have been temporarily insane. Love it though..........
