Andy Tauer says that the greatest perfume discussion board is...
Question:
POL aka perfume of life. I am going to try it for awhile. I am over basenotes, actually. Answer: I was lurking around there for a while and its ok - the rate of activity isn't that high. Its quite heavily female dominated actually (and the topics reflect that). Theres only so much discussion on gardenias, flowers, oprah and girly scents a man can take .. Answer: you'll be back. it's real pretty over there and there are personal issues I don't want to read about. POL is like Basenotes Female Discussion lite. They do tend to fawn all over perfumers there. "Oh!!! He Winked at Me Too!!!" -------------------------------------- I'll bet no one on POL said shove it back up your ass when he doubled the price of LDDM Answer: There's not enough diversity at POL, IMO. Over there, you're expected to WORSHIP classic, or classic-style fragrances (i.e., heavy on the florals, powder and aldehydes), as well as s-t-r-o-n-g fragrances. And, yes, they do fawn over many niche perfumers (particularly Lutens), as well as private perfumers who post on the board. Those whose tastes and opinions differ can expect to be ignored by the other members. There ARE some people over there who have encyclopedic knowledge of fragrance, I'll give them their props for that. However, their extremely narrow view of what makes a "great" scent is NOT representative of most perfume lovers, let alone the simple, everyday mass market shopper. Answer: Well, no, most POL people are definitely *not* your everyday mass-market shoppers. Would Basenoters consider themselves the ordinary mass-market shoppers?...and I definitely don't worship classic or classic-style fragrances...I judge as I see fit. I do agree that it is a far more 'female-dominated' board, but really--we don't discuss Oprah all that much POL and Basenotes are very different...I find Basenotes' Female Fragrance discussion not nearly as active as POL's board, but then, as you know, POL does have a greater number of female members. In terms of 'internet time,' POL has been around for a long while...I remember when it was around pre-Basenotes Female Fragrance discussion (although I recall Basenotes in general being around when I first signed up on POL). and there's people that post on both, or people that used to post in POL and then moved to Basenotes Answer: POL sucks. Sorry, but I can't believe I paid $1 to get a "membership" there and oy! those discussions related to menstrual cycles and perfume put me off completely. I haven't been back in ages. I'm happy. Answer: Have fun. There are a few former Basenotes members over there with interesting opinions. Renato Answer: IMHO, POL sucks... But I'm not Andy Tauer... By the way, who's Andy Tauer? Answer: he must be some sort of internet authority if his word can cause this queen to be "OVAH" bn and on to pol with a triple snap's swiftness Answer: excellent rofl rent! Wasn't supermarky baking a cake and celebrating his 1,000th post with us a few weeks ago. bipolar board <-----------> Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
