Without Basenotes, I wouldn't have...
Question:
found the scent that had been burning in my mind for the past 13 years. I had tried to seek it out by reading so many reviews here, and by using the simple speculation on members' descriptions and the way the bottles look. Finally, this scent is with me, sent straight from the U.K.
That day, 13 years ago, a salesman came to see my father, introducing new stationery products as usual, on every Saturday. And I was around them both and in a few seconds after he sat down near me, I got a whiff of a heavenly scent deep in my nose. My olfactory sense was since left with this haunting creation for 13 years. I didn't dare to ask him, and I was too young to wear fragrance. But no, he didn't wear it every time he came to us. I experienced it about 4 times, but much enough that if left a trail of impression upon my mind. It was a bit flowery, sensual, formal, sexy, clean, and sophisticated.
Without this web site I don't think I'd ever find it. Thanks to Basenotes and members here who share thoughts and feelings about fragrances. You have unknowingly made me a happier person, for the annoying doubt was buried alive once DUNHILL EDITION was sprayed on my wrist 2 days ago.

Answer:
Great story, and thanks for sharing it!

You also found the perfect place to get your bank account hammered.

Answer:
Love the story. Glad to know you found it. I'm still in search of the spicy, warm, vanilla, mesmerizing Oriental scent I smelled on a woman in Orange County NY three years ago. Passed me in a restaurant and left before I could ask her about it.
BTW Without Basenotes, I would have never found about 90% of the fragrances that currently comprise my wardrobe.

Answer:
Edition is phenomenal. Glad you have joined the fanclub!
Strangely, the first time I smelled it 10 years ago, it had a familiarity to me too, from my childhood. I could not be as specific as you, but I had to buy it. I currently own 2.5 bottles, and am considering stocking up further lest it suffer the same fate as it's equally great brother.

Answer:
Thanks for the feedbacks. I have one question here; is original Dunhill similar to Edition?

The original 1934 Dunhill is simpler, if you will, a lemon, carnation and leather cologne which smells very traditional. Edition is a bit more modern, and very complex, multi-layered creation. They are both sublime in their own ways.

gupts Agreed. I think I have spent over USD2,000 for my collection. I normally don't spend money on brand name products such as clothes. This is crazy, but happy!
