Argh! Itchy Itchy Itchy! - Page 2
Question:
Sestra - was it the edt or a different formulation of Apres l'Ondee that gave you hives? I get a terrible reaction with the parfum (I guess it's one of the reasons they discontinued it), but it's OK on clothes and on my wrists, just not near my chest or face. It breaks my heart - it's my favourite perfume by quite some way.
I found that Fucibet cream (a prescription corticosteroid) works well for the itchy rash - mine was gone a day after using the cream.
Arhianrad - I really hope your allergy is one of those ones that disappears after a while. That sounds awful.

Answer:
Squeezeweasel, it was the edt. I have the 100ml bottle so I'd like to use it on my skin again sometime, but I'm too nervous to try just now. I hardly ever wear my Guerlains, but I was revisiting them in preparation for the next Gueralin week here. I doubt if I'll wear one every day for a week, but I'm sure to use at least Nahema edp and possibly Chamade edp. My favourite is Vol de Nuit, of which I have the Extrait. In the last two weeks I have used - briefly out of curiosity - Mitsouko edt, Habit Rouge edt, Samsara edp, Shalimar edp, and l'Heure Bleue edp. None of these has affected me at all - only the Apres l'Ondee has misbehaved. What on earth does it contain that would bring us out in hives?
I find the edt, though quite a pronounced scent, needs to be liberally applied. I remember reading a previous post of yours where you said it is your favourite, so I hope your clothes and wrists are good hosts for it and it still gives you pleasure.

Answer:
This happened to me last year alot. I remember it specifically happening with Estee Lauders Private Collection and Azuree. I guess maybe because they are so strong. Anyway, i tried tons of things to make the red bumps and, mostly, itch, go away. The best thing is an anti itch lotion called Sarna. I used it before i went to bed and it worked wonders. Try Sarna if nothing else works for you.

Answer:
I've not heard of that so it must be a US product.
Unfortunatley the itch is getting worse not better. I wake up in my sleep scratching.

Answer:
Don't scratch! Put plasters on your fingers at night. Go to the doc and get back to the pharmacist.

Musc Ravageur (as well as many other perfumes) contains Coumarin/Tonka, Cinnamon and Clove, they are common causes for trouble. It's maybe not good to put it on during the attack you're suffering from right now and might make the whole situation worse.

Simply as a fragrance Musc Ravageur is so soothing to me that I wear it for comfort when I need comforting. Thank goodness it doesn't itch on me in the least. It's my best medicine, and without it I'd be lost.
Poor old Indiscreet, get well soon.
Jazztweety, do you know what might have set me on fire after using Apres l'Ondee?
Edit: could it be the aniseed? I can *eat* aniseed, cook with it, with no ill effects, but the chemical version might be more severe.

Answer:
Sestra, I didn't mean to express that MR is more "dangerous" than other perfumes, the same ingredients are in many, many other perfumes too, but in case of an uncomfortable situation it's safest to leave everything away. After a while one can start with one single fragrance to find out whether it is the one to blame.
With Apres L'Ondée I'm not so familiar with the composition, Aniseed is known to cause food allergies to some people. Many of the Guerlains are being reformulated at the moment because of high coumarin and oakmoss doses - I'm sure everybody here knows all about it...

Answer:
I put a little MR on my shoulders yesterday and they're completely clear. But I have nothing on today. I've taken an anti-histamine in the hope that it will help.
If I don't get an improvement soon I'll go to the doctor (the problem is in the UK, you don't always get to see one for quite some time).

Answer:
Gosh, I'm so sorry for you with these reactions.
What are the most allergenic substances or chemicals?
Could we list some for future reference?
