Eighties Burberry
Question:
Just reporting a little good luck.
I was in a fragrance store yesterday and espied, at the back of a cabinet, a nearly full tester of Burberry for Men, the eighties original. The owner didn't know what it was (she thought it was called Society) and sold it to me relatively cheaply. Man I love this stuff!! It has great staying power and smells like a smoke-filled dream. I think in this vein I might like Vendetta PH just a little more, because I love the jasmine note in the latter, but Burberry is a truly classic fragrance. Why, O why did they ever discontinue it (and how many times am I going to end up saying that here on Basenotes)?
The only thing around at the moment that seems to come close to this stuff is Michael Kors for men.
cheers
Eluard
(Hmm I find I can't edit my spelling of "Buberry" in the thread title — how embarrrrassssing.)

Answer:
I came across it once too. From memory, it was in a roundish bottle and it's an old style oriental (like Chaps and Lagerfeld Classic). Am I correct?
If my memory is correct, it would have been discontinued because old style orientals - the type more appropriate for the office than a night club - just went out of fashion. But I still like them.

Renato You know it's interesting: I now am not sure what I got: It doesn't match any of the images in the Directory. The box is grey and it has Burberry for Men on it. The bottle is rectangular and is vertically ribbed. The cap is blue with an emblem on the top. It is a very smoky/bay rum-type scent: to me it is a slightly better scent than Havana, more complex, and it lasts a bit longer.
Any ideas what this is?

Any ideas what this is? Look in the Basenotes directory and you'll see Burberry Original #2, I think that's what you have. I have access to it and been thinking of buying it blind. With your review I think I'll get it.
I've never smelled either one so I don't know what the difference is.

Answer:
Yes, that's right. The ORIGINAL Burberry's for Men -- "#1" -- came in a Federal blue colored box, and had the Burberry's logo in a coppery gold embossed on the box. The bottle was clear and squat, and featured the same coppery gold color of print on the bottle's side, and a coppery gold lid. I think that Burberry's discontinued this one early on, likely in the late Eighties. I was crestfallen then, and get melancholy thinking about it even now.

Answer:
I have a picture of Burberry #2 which I'm waiting to upload to the directory.

Yes, now that is one that I've never seen around. I'd certainly like to though.
