Nuts .. Coconuts
Question:
Ah, the coconut tree..."the tree of a thousand uses" ... but the note itself has often been misused in perfumes, most of the times resulting in a strong heavy coconutty scent. Frederic Malle Carnal Flower and Creed Virgin Island Water are the only two fragrances I know which have an expertly weaved coconut note - the note is perceptible, yet never overwhelms the composition. It complements the other notes instead of overpowering them. Are there any other fragrances which contain a perceptible coconut note yet aren't overly coconutty ? Answer: Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore has just a hint of coconut that brilliantly enhances the ripeness of its sandalwood base. Ah, it is heavenly. Coconut in Santal De Mysore ? I get Arabie like spices and warmth from it but no 'nuts .. Answer: Originally Posted by zztopp Coconut in Santal De Mysore ? I think this has been commented on before at makeupalley. Answer: I have heard that the Estee Lauder (Tom Ford) redo of Azuree, when it came out last year as a body oil, had light notes of coconut in it...milky almost in strength. Now Lauder's reissuing the body oil and coming out with a fragrance also at the end of the month. I also must say that I agree with your comment that Creeds VIW handles coconuts nicely - that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I smelled it... Oh THIS is what coconut can smell like in a scent! Answer: I get some coconut in Paul Smith - London. I fell for Carnal Flower this weekend at Barneys. Answer: Philosykos has a light coconut note too. Very clever - until Philosykos I really hadn't been aware of the similarity between coconut and fig. The coconut/fig thing is more obvious (less well done but still pleasant) in Demeter's Fig Leaf. It smells like sweeties, so I'm a bit embarrassed to like it so much, but I've been very taken by Laura Mercier's Coconut Almond edt. Answer: Coconut is front and centre in Aramis Bermuda Tonic, so perhaps too much. It's more subtly blended into Armani Code. Answer: Dante - So correct on Bermuda Tonic. Whew! Almost cloying. Answer: There's a coconut note in Marc Jacobs for Men. It rather saves the fragrance as far as I'm concerned. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
