I remember the TV commercials. One of the actors was a guy who also did the commercials for "What is hamburger anyway -- it's ground steak!" And the idea was that you could use A-1 for hamburgers......I think.
Anyway, my Hai Karate connection is that I actually met the parents of the aforementioned actor in Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, when I was doing media relations for the Medical College of Wisconsin in the mid- late-80s. The actor was there getting some semi-minor procedure done.
Another thing about Hai Karate is that last year, when I began going nuts about men's frags, I asked a work-out buddy about his favorite frags and he said, with a shit-eating grin...."I dunno.....Hai Karate....?"
Going back to paragraph 1....if you''re at least as old as me you will remember that the premise of the commercial was that Hai Karate was so sexy that you would need Karate to fend off the babes that wanted a piece of you!! The actor in the commercial was actually wearing a black karate outfit....

Maybe it was the one way I could relate to men on TV as a youth...that they put on some cologne. But right now, I couldn't tell you of one TV advertisement for men's cologne! Are they less memorable? Am I watching less TV than as a child? What are the men's frag TV commercials in the last 6 months? And would I find the Aqua Velmet man as cute today as I did when I was 10 years old?
