Musc Ravageur vs. MV3?
Question:
I recently received my "Editions de Parfums" samples, and was struck by the resemblance between Musc Ravageur and M.A.C.'s MV3; I'm finding the similarity to be extremely pronounced, although I sometimes (but not always) find Musc Ravageur more nuanced and balanced than MV3.
Has anyone else experienced this? It strikes me as odd, since Musc Ravageur is the carefully composed offering of a fragrance house, while MV3 is simply a line extension item; M.A.C. is a cosmetic company. This isn't intended as snobbery, but line extension items seldom receive the same care in their design as do primary offerings.

Answer:
Well of course now I have to try MV3 because I love MR (it is today's scent for me!!) after an initial adverse reaction.
I notice that the site's online notes for MV3 do not list lavender, which is the note that comes out most strongly on me. And is a principal reason why I love MR.
But still, at only about $25 for MV3 (including mailing)....

Answer:
My skin really brings out sweet notes; I'm able to detect the lavander in Musc Ravageur only if I sniff very intently, and even then its presence is extremely subtle (I've heard people mention a lavender note in Jicky, too, but on me it's pure custard, nutmeg, and caramel). This may be part of the reason that it smells so much like MV3 on/to me.
I'm extremely curious as to how you respond to MV3... please keep me posted

Answer:
Wow, I haven't tried any perfumes from MAC. They are a very high-end cosmetics line, so it wouldn't surprise me if they came out with something delicious.
Lavender in Musc Ravageur?? Wow, I haven't detected that on my skin yet. I'll have to give it another concentrated sniff.

I'm extremely curious as to how you respond to MV3... please keep me posted MV3 ordered. Will be in touch. Even if it doesn't prove to be an approximation of Musc Ravageur - thanks for the site. Had never even heard of the company before this!!

Answer:
I went out & picked this one up thanks to this thread, lol. It DOES resemble Musc Ravageur upon first spray...but the drydown is pretty different. It's not bad, though!!! I swear I pick up a patchouli note in this, even though it's not listed. I think I'll hoard this one away until next fall, or cooler summer nights. It's definitely a cooler weather frag.

Answer:
LUV LUV LUV this MV3! Much more aggressive than MR, fuller bodied and rounder but not as silky. Bergamot and jasmine bloomed for me right away, but the drydown was more vanilla with just a hint of the balsam that others mention as a major characteristic. A very "now" scent I'm happy to have in my 'drobe!!

Answer:
I'm really glad you like this... I'd have felt bad if you'd got it, then wanted to kill me for making a horrid suggestion
It's interesting that you get bergamot... my skin doesn't bring this out at all, and only the faintest whisp of jasmine.

Answer:
Hmmm to me MV3 smells a lot more like Prada edp

I think the tendency for my skin to bring out vannilic and related gourmand notes has a lot to do with the impression I described, but I've definitely got to check Prada edp... if I can even FIND it here!
