Did u ever get a negative comment about your scent?
Question:
It's unbelievable but true, I've had a couple of people comment out loud to me, about what I was wearing, in a very negative way. I was once in a Health Food Store, and the owner said, "who is wearing that horrible perfume?" He actually sniffed around the store to find me, and I told him to kiss my butt, and left the store. (It was Amarige) Another time I was wearing Casmir, at Blockbuster Video, and passed this couple, and they scrunched their noses, and kind of said, phew! I just hung them a dirty look, how rude. (they don't have to like it, but don't let me hear it, for heaven sake) There was only one time that I understood the remark being said out loud. That was when I was standing on line at the DMV & I was wearing a potent amount of Fendi, and this woman working there, was allergic & asked who was wearing a perfume that was making her feel like she was going to be sick. I told her it was me, (knew it had to be) and asked her if she wanted me to leave, she said, "no." So, I just tried to stay as far away from her as I could. That's why I mostly wear Kenzo Jungle, I've never had a negative complaint yet. I'm a potent woman.

Answer:
This weekend, I went out of town scent sniffing. I accidently put on way too much Pink Sugar with about ten other things. (This is no put down on Pink Sugar, I just didn't know it was so potent) but I was planning on going straight to the motel and taking a shower, but low and behold, I ran into a TJ Max and had to stop. While I was in there, the whole store started in on where's the cotton candy and some bad remarks. One lady came near me looking at me in a weird way, I confessed. I kept my distance as best as possible and left the store. Thankfully, I was out of town and will not see those people again.

Answer:
it happened to me twice, once it was in the 90's from a woman at work (in her 50's, forever single, a carreer, a cat (mind you I love cats too), no men lol) gave me a dirty look, I had just reapply some Eau du Ciel after lunch before going back to work.
also a younger man I was dating last summer who like most men loves and compliments me when I wear Fleurs d 'Oranger by Serge Lutens.
I had just received a vintage 1000 extrait de parfum, I was not supposed to see him that night but unfortunately I did ha ha ha...he told me my perfume smelled really old like something from the 30's or 40's and that he loved much sexier frags.

Answer:
I've only had a negative response once--after testing all day, a quick wipedown, and then an attempted coverup with a couple spritzes of.....was it KM Loukhoum? I had to go to a meeting, and a friend laughed a bit and said "Somebody smells good!" I was embarrassed and glanced to my right--a very (very) handsome man I'd met only once, who agreed by saying "Yeah, it's knocking me over." I must have looked stricken, he amended "But it does smell good!"
On the bright side, he remembered my name and always stops to chat a bit when we run into one another. He also gave my son an interview for a school project-- Jon then got an 'A+' . IMO, Jon owes the only A+ of his life to basenotes.

Answer:
My mother always tells me that I wear too much perfume. Other people probably think that to themselves, but don't say it. Aquolina Pink Sugar smells fun in the bottle but like nasty rubber on my wrist, and after spraying some on myself in a store and deciding not to buy it for that reason, my fiance pointed out that it smelled terrible on me as we were walking out of the store. I was going to wash it off as soon as we got to the station anyway. But no stranger has ever made a nasty comment or face at me that I've noticed.

Answer:
Obsession. In the eighties I used to work with an alcoholic who was perpetually hung over, I think. She told me it was too strong. On the other hand, another woman in that office said she liked it - "nice light scent, not too strong." I have to wonder what was wrong with HER nose. I don't wear it anymore, since my father became ill and died during that bottle of Obsession, and it brings back memories of hospital and nursing homes. However, I must have liked it at the time.
Also, my landlord in Budapest told me he thought Narcisse Noir was terribly strong. On the other hand, another girl told me she thought it was a nice
herbal/menthol scent. I still like Narcisse Noir.

Answer:
I've had negative remarks on Angel (naturally!), and positive, too. Someone on an elevator said, "it smells like bug spray in here" and I knew it was me because I had just put some Angel on. The old bug spray remark doesn't faze me, though.
I visited a friend last winter whose infant wrinkled her nose at my Fracas. Now that, I can totally understand.

Answer:
I also got the "bug spray" coment about Angel a few years ago from a guy passing me in the hall at work. I was told that I smelled like a funeral home back in high school, I was wearing Tea Rose by Perfumers Worshop That was really mortifying at the time. Now I wouldn't care...if my scent offends, there is ALWAYS mouth-breathing!!!

Answer:
I used to overdo the Vanilla Musk, Lady Aspen, and Charlie Red in high school. I always got wrinkled noses directed my way. Whoops.
Now I try to have a much lighter hand. Last summer, though, I was wearing Theirry Mugler Cologne at work. My brother (who works w/ me) said I was "wearing a lot of stuff." I thought it was a weird comment coming from him. He knows of my hobby, but is pretty indifferent to what I wear or how much of it I put on.
However, I think it was the exact same day that a female co-worker said that she REALLY liked my cologne and asked what it was. She was walking with me and she got distracted and followed me nearly all the way back to my cube, even though hers is clear across the building, lol. She even said that she was distracted because I smelled so good.

Answer:
I just thought of another time that I offended someone with my perfume. I was 15 at the time & my best friend & I went to a doctor's appointment, and we had on alot of patchouli oil. People were coming into the waiting room, and we were seeing their noses twitching & them looking around, trying to find out where that horrible stench was coming from. "What is that smell?" We just sat there & tried not to laugh, because we knew it was us. We did the same thing with strawberry oil, and made many people nauseous. Look, we were only 15, keep that in mind...lol...
I do notice that some people won't hesitate to comment on scents that they just don't like. If someone walks by me smelling hideous, I won't let them be aware of my displeasure, but I will gag sometimes.
