Welcome to Live Dialogue !!!

You know what they say about guys with big bottles...
Question:
Big bottles have longer and thicker spraying straws. So each spray is bigger and uses up more perfume. Doesn't that mean that all in all it takes up about the same amount of sprays to use a 30mL bottle as a 5oz one?

What's your experience? I like big bottles because I like to have my favourite fragrances for a long time, but at the same time, you spray one side of your neck, or one wrist and you used as much fluid as 3 or 4 well directed pulse point sprays out of a small bottle.

Oh the drama!

Answer:
Uh, no. Nautica LL, the smallest of my bottles at 30ml, has a way bigger spray amount than Javari and about as much as Concentree d' Orange Verte (both 100ml), while the 50ml sizes I have owned so far have considerable variance.

Answer:
Great thread topic Caeser...I thought I was the only one who realized this.
Whenever I read on Basenotes someone who says the exact number of times he/she sprays a scent, my first question that pops in my head is 'What size bottle is this?' for the very same reason you described...small bottles [including decants] spray in one spray MUCH LESS than a larger bottle does.
I've pretty much given up on trying to perfect the number of sprays myself...if I overapply, oh well...

Answer:
Thanks mike - I was thinking of getting some little decant atomizers and transferring the some of the contents of my bigger bottles to those, both for poratability (Bvlgari The Vert or Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte need frequent reapplication) and for precision, so that I don't waste a giant horsehead nebula gas cloud of expensive fragrance where only 10% of the cloud hits my wrist, and the rest make my bathroom smell nice!

I hate those giant horsehead nebula gas clouds too!

Answer:
A very interesting point and one I hadn't thought about before.
I expect the amount of spray depends on lots of things, such as the size of the nozzle itself and how far it travels when pressed down. A small nozzle, with a short travelling distance may not dispense the whole contents of the straw, and so it wouldn't matter what size the bottle was (if both sizes had the same nozzle).
I'm going to ponder this some more...

Answer:
THE best nozzle I ever had is from my 4oz Silver Mountain Water. It allows you to control completely how far down you push it. that way I can get some everyowhere I need to without wasting a ton of it. I've never seen another one like it.

With my counter-examples I also missed the possibility of different sizes of the same product dispensing different amounts of fragrance, but IIRC that is at least not always the case.

The Nautica LL one is funky, too. You can press it only slightly to have a jet of scent rather than a cloud. Maximum precision

Answer:
do some research with an atomizer mechanism supplier. the mechanisms are sold with a reference to amount of product per spray, which does not necessarily bear a relation to their physical size (except at the extremes of course). I.e., one can procure smaller sprayers that spray large, and larger sprayers that spray small.
In the end it probably has more to do with what is available to the packaging design team for any given production run (or what they specify) than whether or not it is sized for a larger or smaller bottle.
