Pomegranate Noir - Page 2
Question:
I really want to own Pomegranate Noir soon - I already own 3 Jo Malone's so if I get another anytime soon it'll be PN. I remember Jock_with_scents really giving it a glowing review here on Basenotes and then I also remember it being one of the very first scents that Chandler Burr reviewed, for his colum in the New York Times 'Scent Strips'... The article is no longer online (NY Times archive wants you to buy it), but I found an interesting transcript of Mr. Burr discussing not only PN, but his review of PN also, on On The Media (link below): http://www.onthemedia.org/transcripts/2006/09/01/07 Enjoy Answer: Quote: Originally Posted by sdmilne Despite being labelled as cologne strength is this one more of an EDT strangth? At least EDT - I looked at the bottle to see how it was classified, wondering if it was an EDP, and I was pretty surprised that it says Cologne/Colonia! Spray per spray from a 30mL bottle, it's about as intense as my Opium EDP, and lasts about as long too. The EDC's I have are Bvlgari Green Tea and Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte, and I have to put on a 6-10 sprays and reapply in two hours 'cause they vanish with the breeze. My EDT's maybe 4-5 sprays lasting maybe 4 hours max, but this is two max from the small bottle, good for 4hrs +. And it doesn't get ugly as it fades either. Answer: I guess every member has a few scents that they feel everyone should at least try. Pomegranate Noir is one of the scents that I enjoy and hope others do too. But, let me be clear that I am not advocating anyone to get it, just saying that it is worth a sample at some point and then you can like it or hate it. I am always scared to 'glow' on a scent here too much because of my fear that it may cause someone to purchase without trying first. I have made that mistake myself of buying blind after hype caused me to act without restraint. So...moving on...There are a few scents that create this hazy, sueded like warmth on me in the drydown, almost like the scent is humming above your skin continuously during the drydown. I get that with: Pomegranate Noir Terre d'Hermes Dior Homme Bleecker Street Kiton L'air du desert Marocain I have found also that PN's beauty really shines in slightly warmer weather. Answer: I second that - try it first, it's definitely not for everyone, and it ain't cheap. It sells on ebay for as much or even more as in the boutiques, and II was really lucky to get some at a very good price from ChuckW. Answer: Hummm, i just bought a sample on ebay.If it's too masculine i'll just layer it with a single note of raspberry. I do wear manly scents like ferinheight, but i do have my limits. ( I hope that dosent sound too girly :/) hummmm Answer: I absolutely love this fragrance. In fact, it was love at first smell. I was on a buying trip to Neiman S'Marcus--actually to look for a L'Artisan fragrance, which the Atlanta store doesn't carry (that was a different post altogether) and happened across the line. The SA was very nice and (almost too) energetic. I smelled quite a few fragrances from Jo Malone that evening but in my mind there was only one standout: Pomegranate Noir. I wear it quite often to evening cocktail parties and dinners. I almost exclusively wear it at night. And I always receive compliments. It's certainly in my top five--without any hesitation. Answer: Since I'm one of those "lowbrows" who purchases fragrances at Bath and Body Works (and even wears them!), I can't help wondering whether their "Midnight Pomegranate" might have been modeled on Pomegranate Noir. Remember that "noir" means "black" in French; the black of the Midnight Pomegranate box plus the use of the word "midnight" are very suggestive. Any ideas/opinions? What really shocks me is that Midnight Pomegranate is classified as "unisex," as are the ultra-sweet "Warm Vanilla Sugar" and the flowery "Japanese Cherry Blossom!" Answer: I don't know about midnight pomegranate, but there's an online store called scent works or the scent works and they make an imitation Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir oil that you can mix with alcohol or coconut oil or whatever to make your own perfume or soap or whatever I was thinking of that before I found my original one at a good price. If anyone ever tries it, do let me know! Actually, NowSmellThis gave the Bath and Body Works Midnight Pomegranate a review, a couple of weeks ago: http://nowsmellthis.blogharbor.com/b...4/2779359.html She actually mentions the JM Pomegranate Noir in the 2nd paragraph of the review. FYI - Bath and Body Works has done a pomegranate scent before...they released Very Festive Pomegranate in Christmas '06. I have the hand soap! Answer: OK, I must reply to this thread from last month, because I finally purchased Pomegranate Noir last night and it was actually the first time I had ever sniffed it. Love at first sniff - totally! Got the plums, got the pomegranate, got an amazing wine (or grape skins?) note in the mid drydown, not sure if I got frankincense (I can't really say I know what frank' smells like...) - just sniffed my wrist all friggin night. I must also agree with what has already been said previously - I've never smelled anything like this. And, honestly I kept saying to myself, 'Jo Malone did THIS?'
