expanding to spring/summer
Question:
The recent warm weather has got me thinking about expanding my wardrobe to include some lighter scents. A few months ago, I got advice for cold weather scents, and I've been really happy with my purchases. I got D&G PH, Versace Dreamer, Burberry Brit, and Gucci Envy. I also have some Hugo Boss left from the years. I'm 19 in college. These are the ones I think I've got it down to: L'Eau Par Kenzo L'Eau d' Issey Iceberg Twice Mugler Cologne Unbound XS Bvlgari Extreme Guerlain Vetiver Ideally I would like 3-4 that offer good variety, good specifically for warm weather, but possibly more versatile than that. That's what I like about what I bought for the cold; none of them are alike. I have samples of Bvlgari Extreme and I like it, but I still haven't decided about buying a bottle. And I also have a sample of Cologne that I will keep testing, but I'm kind of on the fence about it. I may just end up buying a bunch and ebaying what I don't like or something. Thanks for any thoughts. Answer: I can't miss an opportunity to say check out Guerlain Vetiver. I love that stuff and think it is timeless and perfect. Bulgari Extreme, for the water, woods, and tea is what I'd say another good possibility, and last I'd say Mugler Cologne would be worth trying out. It's a solid summer performer without risk of smelling aquatic, which is what your list runs to, with Issey and Unbound as main examples. That's great if you like them, but I think they're a little spent. I'm kicking myself for not remembering Iceberg Twice, so I can't recommend on that one. I'm really glad your winter selections went well. --Chris Answer: I definitely say get Unbound, especially if you can find it for $10 at your local TJ Maxx/Marshall's. It's not a superb, groundbreaking frag by any means, but it does smell really nice & you really can't get a better deal. L'eau D'Issey is great...as long as you go easy on this one. It's a fairly loud frag, and in the warm summer heat, it's not the best. My suggestion is to wear it when you know you'll be in crisp, cool, a/c . L'eau Par Kenzo is also a really nice fresh one. I almost got a bottle of this last summer, myself, but other frags ended up taking priority . And of course, I always sing the praises of Mugler Cologne, but since you have samples of it I'll let you decide for yourself . I just think it's perfect for relaxing on a hot summer day. Answer: You've made a good list there. I've smelled L'eau D'Issey in the clubs enough that it has ceased to be a spring/summer frag to me. Very strong and quite nice, but if originality is important to you you may find it to be a little too ubiquitous. L'eau par Kenzo is a relatively one-dimensional scent that is pretty solid. Lemon and mint for about an hour, and then little else, but that hour is excellent. Plus the new bottle is sweet. Guerlain Vetiver is an absolute classic that you must try. There are a couple of variations out there (Frozen, Extreme) that you might like instead, though to me the original is the best of the bunch. All that said, I've noticed recently that I've been reaching for XS more and more, and if I had to choose one frag out of your list, that would probably be the one. It is a fresh floral/woody scent with extremely good longetivity (at least on me) that garners compliments constantly. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Good luck! Answer: Issey and G. Vetiver definately. Give Bulgari Aqua a try Answer: While checking G. Vetiver, you have to try the "sport" version, esp for summer time. Its in a whole other realm from what you expect from something labeled "sport." Along with Mugler cologne, try Original Vetiver (some say they are nearly identical) and for a counterpoint within the soapy-clean genre try Gendarme. Its an all time fav of mine. Iceberg Twice - didn't strike a chord for me. If you like it, PM me. I never wear mine and would swap it out in a heartbeat Answer: Thanks for the comments thus far. I've been testing the TM Cologne for the last couple of days and it's very interesting. Sometimes I get nothing but soap and it seems a bit silly, but other times it's fantastic. And it lasts. I like the idea of having a nice fresh, airy, aquatic type frag (which I believe would be wher Kenzo comes in) but I'm kind of worried about the longevity. I sampled Live Jazz recently and found the longevity to be less than steller, otherwise I'd be considering it too. Since I want a variety, is there anything on my list very similar that would make it unnecessary (for me anyway) to have both? I tried to compare the note lists and they don't seem too alike, but I'm not good enough with this stuff to really tell. Answer: What is the consensus on Lacoste Essential, both in smell and longevity/sillage? Essential and Cool Play are very fresh scents. Depending on how blue your fresh scent may smell, you may want to take a look at Polo Blue, L'Eau Bleue d'Issey (much better than the original) or Cool Water Deep. If I would recommend AdG I'll get stoned to death, so I won't. Cologne, XS, Vetiver and one of these would be a decent summer line up, I think. Don't know Unbound, so I don't know about it's redundancy. Answer: Vetiver, Mulger Cologne, Bulgari, and check out: Fahrenheit. Not everybody's cup of tea though. Oh, and if you get a chance, Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta. - Rich Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
