The Art of Shaving Sandalwood + Lemon
Question:
What does everyone think about these two? I'm thinking about buying them. I'd like to know, though, if anyone has seen them online for less than the standard $70? I can't seem to find them at any of the online discounters. I might be stuck buying from Nordstroms. Answer: I've sampled The Art of Shaving Sandalwood and if you go to the fragrance listing on base notes there are a large number of reviews. I'm still undecided about the fragrance. At times I think it smells exceptionally good and at other times it can smell somewhat medicinal. Its top notes are dominated by Eucalyptus and the middle notes by Pine. I really don't get much Sandalwood until the dry down. It is supposed to have some very expensive natural Sandalwood essential oils in it. I would suggest that you try before you buy. Nordstrom is very good about giving out samples, I got a sample of it from them. As far as shopping for it. Not a lot of options other then places which charge the suggested retail price of $70 though I do occationally find some on Ebay for less but not that much less. I checked the completed auctions for it on Ebay and a 100ml bottle seems to be going for about $60 including shipping. Given the risks of Ebay, I would likely just spring for the bottle at Nordstrom's. Answer: Lemon is a dead ringer for eau d'Hadrien. sandalwood just doesn't take me anywhere, try Tam dao by Diptyque Answer: I like the Lemon much better than the Sandalwood.....Gary Answer: I get alot of compliments with Sandalwood. Great day frag that is very masculine. I like the Pine and Eucalyptus so this works well for me. The Lemon lasts a long time for a citrus frag...is alot like Eau de New York from Bond No. 9 I like the Sandalwood better and wear it year round. Answer: I haven't tried the Lemon. The Sandalwood is good, but is heavy on the Eucalyptus. The sandalwood smell is good, but I prefer Tam Dao as a sandalwood fragrance: better blending. If the Lemon smells like Eau d'Hadrien then that would be very high praise, as that's one of my favorite citruses. Answer: Didn't like the Sandalwood at all. Harsh, medicinal, boiled kidneys. It definitely merits testing before buying. For a strong Sandalwood I'd much prefer Villoresi Sandalo, Floris Sandalwood ( not Santal) or Creed's Bois de Santal. for a subtle, more muted, but very pure Sandalwood Creed's Santal Imperial. Tam Dao has a strong incense and cedar character which somewhat dominates the sandalwood IMO. I prefer DSH Sandalo Inpiritu which I find to be a masterful blend of sandalwood, incense and spices. However good the Lemon may be, compare it to Monsieur Balmain, which is much cheaper and utterly brilliant. I get the German equivalent of Lemon Pledge from Hadrien, btw. Answer: Tam Dao, Santal Imperial, Villoresi Sandalo....yes, they all smell good...for about 30 minutes. No longevity for me on any of them and very boring. Sandalwood note by itself is boring. I like mine in a stew of boiled kidneys, harsh..ah AOS Sandalwood. AOS lasts about 10 hours on me. True, it is a woody, herbaceous fragrance that is slightly sweet on the drydown INSPIRED by sandalwood, not all about sandalwood only. I refuse to buy frags with poor longevity...waste of time and money, no matter how good they smell. For $70 and 10 hours of longevity, I will gladly accept 3 or 4 compliments a day for smelling like 'boiled kidneys?'. Answer: Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks In defense of sandalwood I have to say I find this to be one of the most intriguing single notes ever. Not boring at all, but full of complexity in itself. A fitting definition from my H&R book says "balsamic sweet, velvety-warm wood with light urinous undertone." I find the the Villoresi and Floris compositions to emphasize the sweetness, Bois de Santal is more woody & brash, and AOS, to me, is the most medicinal and "urinous" take (boiled kidneys). Skins differ, of course, but generally speaking sandalwood has considerable longevity, though it stays close to the skin - no major sillage. Even with a moderate application of Sandalo I smell of it all day, but close to the skin. With Imperial that effect is even stronger. I agree that AOS is more outgoing.Vive la différence and that there's something out there for everyone. Answer: Villoresi Sandalo and Tam Dao are really beautiful, seriously. They are beautiful frags on me. My chemistry eats them up I guess, and I hate that. I limit myself to only 35 frags in my collection (Keeps my OC in check ), so I really go for those frags that give me longevity on my skin. I have chosen Santal Noble and AOS Sandalwood as my 'Sandalwood' frags as of right now. My nose is not very sophisticated to say the least, so when I say that sandalwood by itself as a note is boring, I mean that my nose needs amber, or pine, or cedar to add to it before I can get any appreciation for it. Diptyque makes a sandalwood candle that is mostly just the pure essence of sandalwood supposedly...I cannot smell a thing when I burn it. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
