The Art of Shaving Sandalwood + Lemon - Page 2
Question:
Thanks for all the replies. I got a sample vial from Nordstroms and I'm wearing it now. So far I like it a lot, the eucalyptus is an interesting note. But I think it would be better if I could spray it on instead of dab from the vial. I might buy it if it lasts a long time on me. Answer: Boiled kidneys? Cripes. I tried both at the AoS salon in Las Vegas in February. It's a really very masculine sandalwood (which I like a lot) - it suited my husband better than it did me, which is probably what you're wanting to hear! I still prefer the Etro sandalwood, but that's been my favourite sandalwood for years, so I'd have been surprised to find one I like better. I used the spray bottle in the salon, and it was pretty long-lasting. The comparisons with Eau d'Hadrien for the lemon are good. Very fresh, lots of zing. I enjoyed it, but not enough to buy given that I already own EdH. Answer: Originally Posted by Arvydas Thanks for all the replies. I got a sample vial from Nordstroms and I'm wearing it now. I agree, there is a difference in the way a fragrance evolves based upon how it is applied, spray or splash (or in this case dab). I personally much prefer the spray. I do wish that Nordstrom went to the mini-atomizers that Sephora uses. Answer: I like both AOS fragrances, but don't own either of them as yet. I tend toward more traditional renditions of sandalwood and citrus, and these are very "modern" if you know what I mean. For a long lasting sandalwood, I like Trumper; and citrus, well, citrus, there are a lot of them aren't there? Anyway, it comes down to personal taste, and longevity. As mentioned above, Villoresi Sandalo is out of this world, but doesn't last very long. So my advise is this: Spring is here, go for the Lemon, try it for a season or two, and get acquainted with AOS style; go really couldn't go wrong. Joe Answer: I definitely second Creed's Bois De Santal for a strong sandalwood scent. Its powerful and amazing. Its exclusive to Harrods London, and Saks Fifth Avenue (NYC) only (sometimes you can find it on scentiments.com as well) I recently compared essential oils of Vanuatu Sandalwood (its said to be close to Mysore) and Australian sandalwood. I dont think Vanuatu is wearable, despite its complexity. It can be unpleasantly medicinal, before drying down to a more bearable sweet woody smell; however, I can see it performing amazingly in company of other notes. Australian sandalwood is more pleasant and less complex - there's is a citrusy zing to it at times. I dont consider it "inferior" - it smells fine. Interestingly, cedarwood is a common adulterant in many sandalwood oils (especially dubious ones claiming to be 100% pure "mysore"). Other sandalwoods that I like: Creed Santal Imperial (amazing this one as well - very close to mysore, the citrus+sandalwood combo is fantastic), Villoresi Sandalo (elegant rosewood + santal), and then perhaps Tam Dao (cedar dominates, sandalwood is australian blend, but its still worth trying - Villoresi Sandalo smells like what Tam Dao was intended to be). Etro Sandalo is good too, but the sandalwood note (which is great) is replaced by lots of patchouli fast. Others you might be interested in (I dont care much for these): Serge Lutens Santal De Mysore (lots of spices and amber dominate) MPG Santal Noble (I used to like this one but I get too much cedar from it now - that wooden chest smell) Answer: Thanks a lot for all the recommendations. I'm looking forward to trying them out. I'll have to get a sample vial of AoS Lemon as well. So far, after having worn AoS Sandalwood for 10+ hours: I can still smell it, and the top notes carried almost throughout the whole dry down, surprisingly. It's subtle, but the eucalyptus is still there. I don't pick up a lot of pure sandalwood scent in the dry drown; it's very hidden. Strangely, when I sniff my wrists, I can smell it alright, though it's not too strong (relative to other perfumes) - but throughout the day I noticed it gave off strong sporadic waves of fragrance. AoS definitely has a presence, but it's understated. It seems blended to be very diffusive, and yet not overpowering at close range like some fragrances can be. Answer: I got AOS shaving kit for Christmmas. It included shaving oil, cream, and balm and badger hair brush. I really liked the scent. I find it very creamy. Kept an eye out & recently snagged a 1 oz bottle of the cologne off Ebay for $25.00. It is smooth & masculine with good endurance. Much creamier and not as sharp as Tam Dao, which I also own & like. Not as assy smelling as the Creed Santal Imprl. (sorry, but you know the accord I mean). The shaving system works very very well too. I had been using Kiehl's shvve cream. The AOS stuff beats it handily. Cheers; B.G. . Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
