If colours were perfumes or vice versa what would they be? - Page 4
Question:
I was thinking again about the colors of perfumes today (in the bus - a way to make the boring waiting more pleasant) and found another game - if you were a painter, what technique/style you would use to paint/draw a perfume? I would draw Anais Anais with soft colored pencils or soft pastels on a paper with fine, but visible grain. Champs-Elysées - watercolor to catch the bright, fleeting lights. Thick oil for heavy orientals. Impressionism in autumnal colors for Rive Gauche.
These visual games with perfumes could go on forever, I'm sure we would be able to come up with a whole movie for each one

Answer:
I just came up with some color associations, and now after reading that last post all I can think of is painting styles
Black Aoud - Rubies sitting in water in a black bowl.
Theorema - apricot sunshine on a warm wood wall.
Fendi - moss agate
Apres L'Ondee - dainty nodding yellow narcissus wet by dew in front of a lilac bush.
Angel - Creme Brulee with brown shoe polish accidentally substituted for the caramelized sugar.
Kingdom - what is the color of men's arm pits?
Agent Provocateur - the color of AP's bottle, except a little more powdered with saffron specking.
Fifi Chachnil - pert, sassy, hard pink
Coco - the color of mink
Parfum Sacre - the color of incense wafting in the violet sunbeam of a dark wood room.
Bal A Versailles - gilt gold.
Parfums Regence Kolnisch Juchten - rough sand-colored granite.
I need to stop - someone make me stop!

Answer:
Very good thread - thanks.
We are always describing perfumes with the help of colour here, as my knowledge of the perfumers languague is not up to par. Lately the question of bottle decoration had to be solved and, quite naturally, colours where chosen with the juice in mind.
So the "Unicorn Spell" became green and the "Lion" got a redish brown base with a sandstorm in the middle and a little snow (silver) on top. L'Antimatière just got a light milky bottom in order to say "transparent/light/invisible".
All the best

Ok, so i cheated and just copied my wardrobe and i'll try to give my opinion on the colors of those scents... well... at least the ones i wear most of the time, and why.
Maitresse- blackish maroon becuase its not a red scent, its not firey, but its sexy in a not red way, but its not dark enough to be black.
Sweet Honesty- dusty pink. its powedery, but musky at the same time.
Blu Notte- for the fact its all blue, i don't get a blue scent from it. i get a grey, smoke color, maybe from the hint of tobacco in it, and the more tobacco in the men's version of it.
Mediterraneo- lemon yellow, simply because have you seen the lemons they sell in pompeii and sorrento? this perfume reminds me of them, even thoguh i got it in capri.

Délices de Cartier - red bottle, not a red scent. bright pink. girly, but not barbie pink.

No. 5- tough. hmm.... a blue that's not an ocean blue or a light blue or a midnight blue. a dusty blue. time worn but still beautiful. i think its the powder that makes me think blue.
Amarige Mariage- gold and green. gold because its warm and i love to wear it in cold weather, green not because its earthy, but gree because it feels green to me, like waiting for spring, if there was such a thing as the traditional seasons in miami.

Champs-Elysées- yellow. cheerful, round, happy.
L'Instant de Guerlain- yellow and purple. but not together. purple because it can be regal at times, and yellow because its youthful and playful in a sense.
Hanae Mori (new / Butterfly)- pink. a round pink. what that means, i can't explain, but i can smell it.
Halloween- ooo! sparkling something. not purple, even though the bottle is purple.
Jil Sander No. 4- black and gold. dark, sexy, dangerous.
Cheap and Chic I Love Love- tide orange. it smells clean.
L'Eau Cheap and Chic - real orange. its the citrus.
Incanto Charms- pine tree green. it smells like christmas to me

Rose Santa Maria Novella- red and green. not in a christmas way, but in a natural way, as for a rose, its very rosy, but there's still a veggital under smelll that makes it deeper

Dream Angels Heavenly- dusty marigold. its sexy, but not in your face. its tamed sexy.
Cool thread, btw. i've always wanted to desgin a line of perfumes named with colors, start off with the rainbow and see if i could color a scent, or scent a color.
::shrugs:: now that i say that, someone's going to steal my idea and make millions. I WANT ROYALTIES!

Oooh that's an awesome idea, love it. They could be sort of a set, like they go together but they don't match. Reminds me of those "Three Colours" movies, there's Red, Blue and White and they're separate movies but they're all linked. Love the idea!

Answer:
Mimosa pour Moi clear open yellow
YSL In Love Again Jasmine d'Etoile violet with pink flecks
TDC Vetiver de Sel pale grey that when you look at up close is really white and beige and black and tan and a little olivine
La Chasse aux Pappillons creamy ivory with a pale orangey pink cast you can barely see
Premier Figuier pale silvery green
Jo Malone Vervein yellow green
Carnal Flower butter yellow with swirls of apricot (color not fragarance)

I have often wondered if I am not a mild synesthete myself because of my strong associations between my perfumes, the weather, and the clothing I select. I cannot abide wearing, for example, Mitsouko with a light pink sweater. That fits better with Sui Dreams, or with Valentino V. I also have fragrances reserved for rainy days, quite literally. Does anyone else have this problem with getting ready in the morning?
If anyone would like to know more about synesthesia, which is common to musicians, perfumers, and many other types of artists, there is a useful chapter on it in a book called Brains that Work a Little Bit Differently by Bragdon and Gamon. That said, I think it very possible that perfumers and perfume marketers take into account their personal synesthetic associations when choosing how to package a perfume product.
Yeah! Another person like me! I also can't wear certain perfumes with certain colours. In fact before I started wearing more than one fragrance, if I was going to wear a colour that didn't match the scent, I simply didn't wear perfume on that day.
To me No. 5 is fuschia, pale blue, white, grey, or red (the parfum) - and it's particularly nice with a fabric printed with flowers on it. I've been trying to find a scent to go with my darker colours and so far I've only thought of one that I might consider getting a full bottle of - Mitsouko, which is an "olive green" colour; and since I don't wear olive green, this goes with my navy blues and grays... maybe not black. Black would be vintage TBS vanilla or an amber oil.
Good to know that I'm not the only one that needs to match the scent with the clothes. :-) Oh yeah... and the clothes need to match the weather, and my mood, and also the things I am going to do on that day - for example, if I am going to the park, I do not wear fuschia. I also could never - ever wear Mitsouko with a light pink anything.
