Fragrances ruined by those deemed unworthy?
Question:
Have you ever smelled a favourite frag on someone whom you deemed to be unworthy of it and been turned off it as a result?
I asked because my younger brother, who has loved and faithfully worn CK One for many years, smelled it on an apparently skanky and revolting person at the mall, and now he has gone off it. It's amazing that a one-second encounter can ruin a years-long love affair!
Ever happened to you?

Answer:
Association, can be a powerful thing sometimes in regards to scent, but personally, I don't care who wears something I already like, because it smells good on me, so I don't really care if it doesn't on them. I used to wear Amarige, and it smelled really good on me, (I thought so, and got many compliments) and a friend of the family had it on on the other day, and phew...stinky...I just felt bad for her, that the perfume didn't grace her with the same aroma that it had for me. I despise my step mom, so ANY scent that she would wear, I wouldn't!!

Answer:
I think I look at it the other way.
Those that I deem unworthy, so to speak, are those who, in my humble opinion, do not have class or taste. However, if they were to wear a classy fragrance, and it suits them well, then I would think that, maybe, just maybe I underestimated this person.
I would tend to re-evaluate my opinions of the person.
But no, the fragrance is not ruined for me, as I value my very own experience with a fragrance. I love fragrances for how they suit me and more importantly, how they make me feel.

Answer:
Nope. Nobody can ruin a scent I already love.

For me, it's situational: For example, I have been eager to try (and add to my collection those that work for me) some of my late mother's favorites, now that I am branching out (she never tried to push "her" fragrances, but I know what they were!). But if her scents don't work on me, I put it down to differences in chemistry, not to my being diminished particularly.
But if I were to smell one of the fragrance I adore on someone "unworthy," I'd both think I'd underestimated said 'unworthy' AND admire my gallant fragrance for being so flexible!

Answer:
Haha I admire that you are all so immune to persuasion! It shows a lot of faith in your fragrance

Answer:
That's the nice thing about wearing niche fragrances - it's unlikely you'll smell them on some chav while out shopping. (Anyone who doesn't know what a chav is, Google is your friend!)
When Angel first came out (when it was moderately hard to find still) I fell in love with it. I ended up buying a lot of the other product - body cream, hair perfume, shower gel. But then one of my friends decided she liked it and started doing the same. Although I really liked my friend, I hated the idea of being copied, so I stopped wearing it for ages. I still have the same bottle of EDP in the cupboard and I do wear it occassionally now, though it's turned somewhat greyish... I'm really not keen on wearing anything mass market any more though.

Answer:
The only time I have been turned off a fragrance I liked was when a workmate wore it non-stop. Samsara was the fragrance and a woman across the desk in the office wore it everyday. She was not unworthy to wear Samsara but it was just relentless for months.

Have had it happen with other art forms too - music comes right away to mind. But all of that was when I was much younger and emotions ran higher.
Have also had it happen the other way around - a dismissed frag, or piece of literature or art is admired by a loved one and suddenly becomes a favorite!!
