Costume National...what do you think of this scent? Just curious...
Question:
Is it just me, or is this one of the strangest scents you ever smelled? When it first came out in Sephora's I tested it, and the first ten minutes were very interesting, then....what the heck is this? I read some good reviews online, saying it's incensey, different, reminds people of the seventies, etc.(which I usually love) After reading so many good reviews, I figured, maybe it was that one time in Sephora's that I misunderstood something, so I ordered a bottle, and OMG, I couldn't wear it, I threw it out, because it was so bad. What do you think? If tried, what was your experience? Also the Scent Intense, heard they were different. Answer: Scent was a rare totally blind buy for me. At first spicy, incensy, woody and rather potent. I much prefer the drydown when the floral notes 'take over' and Scent softens. Oddly I think it works best in both the extreme cold of winter and the intense heat of summer. Answer: Sorry if you find my request offensive, but would you please go carefully through your trash, dig it out and send it to me? Costume National (both white and black) has been on my "To Test" list for some sometime. I can send you a year supply of rubber gloves, if you would? Sorry, I threw it out months ago, way before I was on this forum. I don't know for sure, if the scent was suppose to smell the way it did, or it went funky on me. It had the oddest scent, to me. It had a sharp, flowery, artificial kind of weird, fruity kind of woody scent. I know, it's very hard to describe this scent, but it was unwearable for me. I don't know where they sell it anymore, as far as testing it out. Answer: I love this one...I have a few samples of the Scent Intense, and have definitely placed this on a to buy list. (My buy list is rather long though) Answer: I'll take your bottle One of my favorites for late nights out during the winter -- stands up well to a bar atmosphere. A little goes well on leather too if you don't mind people burying their faces in your jacket collar! Don't know how it would wear in warmer weather though. Answer: I'm a very visual and tactile person, so when I first saw the bottles (red and black ones), I prayed that they would contain something that would merit a place on my shelf. In Denmark only the white seems to be available... it smelled very generic, fruity-powdery on me. I was unthrilled, but no matter, I only tried it in order to be thorough with this line. The basenotes reviews of the black (Intense) sounded brilliant, and for once I was looking forward to my next trip back to NYC. On my arrival, I instantly caught cold, and allowed myself to be coerced by my sister into wearing her long puffy down coat. Undaunted by the fact that my health and look were both altogether harshed, I sailed into the Costume National shop in SoHo. I squirted the Intense on one wrist, and the special edition Intense on the other, then staggered back out. The initial sniffs weren't promising, but hey, they didn't last long. I blew my nose, endlessly, and paused to sniff my wrists at regular 10-minute intervals. Things just weren't improving, and this fried-chicken note was emerging. I finally wrote it off. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't particularly pleasant, either. On me, it managed to simultaneously smell banal and bizarre; it seemed as though it was TRYING to smell like leather and sex and all sorts of exciting things, without being able to actually do so. Without actually smelling of stale BO, it managed to suggest that I wasn't over-particular about personal hygiene. I do envy those on whom this smells good. Anyway, I went home, and my sister returned from work a little later... only to complain bitterly that I'd made her coat smell incredibly masculine. I couldn't stop laughing... I suppose it's payback for when she was a little kid, and used to douse herself and her stuffed animals with Emeraude Answer: Thanks for all your replies, I know this is not a popular scent right now, or if ever. It is always so interesting to me how extreme the responses & reviews of the same perfume on different people are. So, that's why the bottom line is, you really have to test it for yourself, because everyone's tastes & chemistries are so different. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
