Habit Rouge: New bottle. New formula? - Page 2
Question:
The new juice is still excellent though not as rich and balsamic as the original. It's a fairly pronounced difference but nothing like what occurred with Vetiver. Vetiver is a new formulation whereas Habit Rouge has just suffered a bit of attenuation. I wear the new EDC all the time. Can't say the same for the new Vetiver. I bought three bottles of the original not long ago and it's like smelling two different fragrances. The old juice would be too much for many people. You need to really like vetiver in order to get on with it.

The difference between this and the newer version is amazing! I expected it to have maybe a small difference, something discernable only to educated noses, but I can easily smell the difference. The older version is richer, stronger, smoother, and better integrated as it dries down. There is less of the powdery quality of the newer version. The animalic notes are more pronounced; it is to my nose, not as powdery sweet, but sweeter in that animalic way. The vanilla is still there but it seems to be better blended and less apparent. Overall, it seems to be a much better scent.
Anyone else out there who has tried both and can comment? Hi Robyogi — is there any chance that you could post a picture of the bottle so those of us who are interested know what to look for? Or describe it in photographic detail?

Answer:
I'm not surprised, since the only formulation I have ever smelled, the new one, is not worthy of the status as an all time great. Same could be said of their Vetiver. This makes me both sad and angry; perfumer, or a true connoisseur, should always be in charge, when it comes to decisions like this, not a businessman.

Answer:
As an aside, I just purchased a 'vintage' advertising poster of Habit Rouge in which the translation of the name is indicated to be "Hunting Jacket".

I think Habit Rougue translates to "red outfit" or something along those lines.
I don't understand the symbology of this rider riding right into the balcony.

I prefer the old version, too. Was lucky to find some on sale.
