Guerlain Vetiver (Vintage juice and bottle) question
Question:
I have just bought two 3.4 oz. tester bottles from my local fragrance store of the OLD Guerlain Vetiver. Or did I?
Both bottles are authentic but one has just a little darker green label and the juice is a brownish green. The other bottle's label is maybe 'slightly' lighter green than the other bottle (not much), and the juice is more medium lemonish color.
So my question is...Did Guerlain start making the new juice in the old bottle, before they came out with the new , modern bottle. Or is it possible that pre-1996, there was a change in the coloring of the juice at some point.
Both juices smell ok, the darker juice though has a richer feel to it.
Any help is appreciated in solving my little puzzle.

Answer:
I wonder if the actual color dye in the fragrance changed over time. I believe they would darken rather than fade as they age.

Answer:
The juice is perfectly clear (no particles or cloudy look) in each bottle. The other tester that I bought last week for another basenoter is the darker color as well. The bottles like I stated earlier are identical. The label on the front of the darker one is a shade darker (almost black/green). The lighter juice's label is a dark hunter green. ????
I have heard some basenoters say the new formulation was in 1996, but the new bottle came out in 2000. Heck, I don't know. We were trying to figure it out at the store. He could tell I was perplexed and gave me buy one get the second 50% off.

Answer:
For what it's worth, my bottle dates from 1993. I've checked, the juice is "brownish green" and the label is black/dark-green.
My older bottle is richer than my new one,new as in new shaped bottle. I find the older variant to be much more "serious", not an accurate desription, but; you get the idea. I think of bottle type influencing views on fragrances a lot, when I think of Guerlain vetiver. The new bottle, whilst nice enough, gives it a more "light, fun" feel. The older bottle meant business.
Old bottle = Roy Keane
New bottle = Frank Lampard

I've been wondering about my Vetiver as well. I figure I got whatever the newest one is, but I'm not sure. I bought it about two weeks ago online, and the bottle was this one.

Answer:
Dennard,
That is the older bottle. The color of the juice in that pic is close to the one that is 'lighter colored' of the two I have. The darker bottle I have has an almost brownish/amber/green color to it; Like the color of whiskey.

http://www.megaobchod.cz/img/goods/default/13342.jpg That is the older shaped bottle. The new shape appeared in 2000, along with a re-working of the formula. If I had to guess, I would say that yours is one of the "newer" older bottles, mine, 1993, has darker juice, for example.

Answer:
Latch, We are on to something here. Our juices sound like they match. I am guessing at some point the juice color changed for the same old bottle.
Maybe one of the 'guerlain wise men' on the forum can confirm that.

Maybe one of the 'guerlain wise men' on the forum can confirm that. Probably. Maybe a marketing thing:as the trend for men moved away from the heavier, darker creations. Guerlain may have "modernised" the look of the juice in order to give it a lighter, jollier look. Maybe. Then, they gave up and changed the whole thing
You prefer old or new, smell-wise?
