Creed or Serge Lutens - Suggestion?
Question:
My wife and I are expecting our first child this summer and I wanted to purchase a scent to go along with the occasion, preferably something suitable for the summer months. (I am 32, if that is any help.) I am looking into something from either the Creed house, or that of Serge Lutens. Perhaps even Frederick Malle.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Answer:
i suggest serge lutens encens et lavande or iris silver mist.

Answer:
Fresh, mature and gentlemanly are not what I would call characteristics of Serge Lutens.

TNMA As i don't know the man myself i can't comment but the 2 lutens fragrances i mentioned qualify imho for what it's worth.

Answer:
Thank you. Those were actually two fragrances I was looking at. I know that it is not really possible to find one that encompasses all of the characteristics that I noted, yet by mentioning them I wanted to paint an overall feeling. If there is anything that could be recommended that would be great. What about from the Creed house? Frederick Malle?
Basically, I want to purchase something nice for the occasion, and the weeks beforehand.

Answer:
Ah, why not try Chene by Lutens. Perfect and light. Perhaps not fresh but not overly sweet at all. Very nice oak notes and something that smells nearly like maple syrup. Though not at all as thick as you think it would be. The perfect sweet scent for those who are not fond of sweet scents. Damn fine longevity and sillage as well.

Answer:
The inclusion of the word "fresh/gentlemanly" eliminates 95% of the Serge Lutens line-up, however Encens et Lavande and (to a lesser extent) Iris Silver Mist might suffice. Creed do the whole fresh thing much better - try their Vetiver '48, Original Vetiver, Neroli Sauvage, or Santal Imperial (amongst others)

Answer:
Thanks Thrax, I will look into that one; I do like sweet scents too. I guess by "fresh" I meant something that is suitable for summer weather. I don't want something overly heavy and cloying during the late summer months.
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks zz, I cleaned it up a bit. The suggestions are appreciated.

Answer:
Do you like more heavy scent or smoother? Serge Lutens is very heavy and the longtivity is great. it is better for the winter!
i prefer Creed ...for the Summer (Millésime Imperial, Silver Mountain Water or Original Vetiver, Erolfa)...

Answer:
Pregnant women are very sensitive in every respect. You'll have to test to make sure your potential choice does not nauseate/irritate her - so no blind buying.
Once your child is born you should both quit perfume for a while, because newborns and small baby's primarily recognize their parents by smell, so your natural olfactory identity should not be covered up by Olivier or Serge, apart from the allergenic potential of perfume.
Congrats. The experience is unique. Cherish every moment
