Attention Macy's Shoppers..or any retial shopper.. - Page 2
Question:
The power it should have in terms of sillage and longevity may have been corrupted by whatever Macy's could have done with it in the last 6 years. What could they have "done to it" if it was sealed in a box?
This confuses me.

"I WAS WRONG. Now i'm stuck with a 6 year old bottle of chanel which, by the way, don't come in plastic wrap, so god knows what macy's had done with it for the past years."
It didn't come sealed! neither of their PM, PE, Egoiste colognes / deodorants/aftershaves come sealed.

Answer:
Since this thread is started to warn members about dangers from a bottle of fragrance, I want to warn unfamiliar readers also. I have a bottle of Platinum Egoiste at least as old as G Man's--probably purchased before his was bottled even, and I've worn it with appreciation for the scent always. I warn you, never have any of G Man's fears for his bottle been realized for me and my bottle. G Man has often praised Platinum Egoiste, and frequently urged fellow members to try it out themselves and find the happiness he's found with Platinum Egoiste, as if it could not be a better product. (Maybe even despite "so god knows what macy's had done with it for the past years," whatever the store did with G Man's bottle, maybe they made it better.)
Sometimes I like Platinum Egoiste, sometimes I don't. I know that my change in taste for it is one of MY shifting tastes and NOT shifts of anything related to the bottle itself.
So, unfamiliar readers, I warn you--G Man's bottle has for all appearances brought G Man great angst, worries, and doubt. Those are feelings and doubts I don't share and have never experienced with my bottle of this fragrance.

Answer:
Yes, I am very emotionally unstable with my bottle of Platinum Egoiste. I love it though, even if it's old. Sigh...just feel ripped off.

Answer:
If you are unhappy, call up the Macy's where you purchased it, ask to talk to the Manager of the fragrance department. Explain the situation and tell him you would like to swap it for a fresh bottle. The worst that can happen is you will be told no and you will be no worse off. More then likely they will swap it.

Maybe a newer bottle has some altered formulation like a lot of perfume companies seem to be doing these days. Seriously I have bottles 10-20 years old and they smell good. Do they smell like they were brand new? I don't really care as they still smell good and in some ways may even smell better.

Answer:
I wouldn't get too stressed out. In 25 years of wearing colonge I've only had one bottle sour on me. I abused a hapless couple of ounces of British Sterling by leaving it in the sun and even in the car for who knows how long. By the time I retreived it the juice was cloudy and off color. Curious, I took a sniff anyway. Yep I killed it.
A bottle stored six years in a climate controlled shopping mall probably has not endured all that much stress. You know it is good because you've ben enthusiastically enjoying it for a while. Trust your own nose and don't worry about it even another minute.
Now stand back and enjoy as our friends beat me up for admitting I've ever worn British Sterling more than once!

I understand your pain. Did you pay cash or with some type of plastic? If you paid with plastic, you should be able to get a copy (from the web?) of your recent transactions that will at least show that you made A purchase from Macy's. Regardless, take it back along with your email from Chanel, speak to a manager or at least the person who sold it to you, and ask NICELY if you can exchange it. If this doesn't work, try to find a new-ish tester and compare it and your PE on your skin. Hopefully you will find them to be the same.

Answer:
don't worry, you weren't ripped off. a bottle that's just a few years older won't kill you, and it won't necessarily kill the frag. if you love it how it is why does it matter? just wear it, believe me, it's fine. i have so many old bottles of perfume. admittedly none of them i payed retail for and most of them are estate sales from ebay so maybe i simply appreciate the good bargain aspect but never have i even considered to try to find out how old my retail bottles of perfume are. why does it matter? i promise you it doesn't. i have a bottle of white shoulders pure parfum that must be. . .god knows, at least 20 or 30 years old? i have a bottle of l'air du temps from my grandmother who died almost 10 years ago and god knows how long she had this bottle before she died. i have a few other bottles that are probably 20 or 30 years old. they smell fine. just wear it, ignore what the crazies at chanel HQ say.

Answer:
thanks guys! But yea..I called and talked to a rep. about the situation she said "is the bottle full?" i said "yes pretty much" I only used it about 40 squirts or less. not much. it's not 100% full but about 95%.I doubt they'll complain. Especially since she asked if it was just going to be a swap, basically.
Anyway, she said just come in when the manager is there and she will work something out.
