DO CHECK THE DATES OF YOUR FRAGRANCES! AND KEEP THE RECEIPT!
I just got a confirmation that my bottle of Platinum Egoiste by Chanel was produced in 2001 and I just had purchased it in 2007. 6 YEAR OLD BOTTLE? Wow. Great sale from Macy's (sarcasm)! Chanel also said in an email that after 3 years they should have had the bottle replaced! But after 6 years, I guess they didn't!
Guess what?! I don't have my receipt! Why? I thought, "why would i need a receipt for this cologne I love? If I break the bottle...that's my fault..so there's no reason to return it"
I WAS WRONG. Now i'm stuck with a 6 year old bottle of chanel which, by the way, don't come in plastic wrap, so god knows what macy's had done with it for the past years.
So please. Just learn from my mistake. thank you.

I'm confused...I thought you really liked your Platinum Egoiste. If it smells great, what does it matter?

The power it should have in terms of sillage and longevity may have been corrupted by whatever Macy's could have done with it in the last 6 years. I love the scent, but if I got ripped off into buying a 6 year old bottle while they had a 1 or 2 year old bottle behind the counter as well, which one would I spend my $60 on and know will have better results? the newer one.

I'm sure nothing's been compromised. I've had a decant of PE that was made for me about 2 years ago. I don't know the age of the bottle it was sprayed from. I rarely wear it, but last time I put some on, it was just one shared spray on my wrist, & I could still smell it after a shower hours later.

the thing is, my chanel has a slightly loud alcohol scent when I spray, which I thought was normal at first for this cologne. I only tested it once before...I sprayed it on my arm and loved it. So a week later, I bought it.
Does yours have a really sharp top note that kind of smells alcoholic?

I think Macy's is acting in an unethical manner. I would try to return it without the receipt if you can show by the label how old it is. I just put some Dolce/Gabanna on last night, which I have always loved. The bottle is 6 years old. Either it has changed or my taste has changed because I didn't like it very well. Somehow it seemed stronger and not in a good way. I just bought some fragrance from Nordstrom. I hope they are ethical.

Does yours have a really sharp top note that kind of smells alcoholic? Well, remember mine's coming from a 2 year old decant that's been kept in a plastic atomizer. I think you should try going to another department store & sampling one of their PE testers & see how it compares.

It'll show up that Macy's sold it to you. They may just offer store credit for it instead of a refund since you don't have the receipt, though. If they take it back at all.

I don't understand why some have such a problem with Macy's......If you have the box...take it back....my Macy's would give you an in store credit.....talk to the fragrance manager....explain what you have found.....Even if you don't have the box....take it back....ask for an in store credit.....Gary
