Do certain scents or notes attract mosquitos?
Question:
Today I wore a first time sample of Sherrer 2 by Jean Louis Scherrer (from ComDiva a BN'r) and besides being bowled over by the florals (hit over the head, I should say) it dried down real nicely and I'm still detecting it, almost 12 hours later. Today, however, twice I found mosquitos stinging me. Pretty normal for Miami, but it's not even Summer here in Miami and already I'm dealing with the mosquitos...jeez! I got to thinking - do certain scents (florals, for instance) attract mosquitos more than other scents (synthetics, for instance)? Answer: I think I remember reading that mosquitoes are attracted by body temperature. Not sure about scents attracting them, but I do know that a lot of commercial fragrances contain citronellal, which is what repels them in mosquito-repellent candles and sprays. Funny, I was going to say the same thing, about the citronella. I would think the sweeter the fragrance was, the more it would probably attract flying insects of any kind. Answer: If anything, I'd say frags 'repel', but probably not very well. Mosquitos are attracted to general human/mammal odors and exhaled CO2. So...Secretions Magnifiques would be a bad one to wear in mosquito territory? On the other hands....fragrances that use natural lavender can act as mosquito repellant. I used to douse in lavender oil or lavender water before evening gardening. Answer: Funny you should post this! I had a run in with a bee today while I was walking in cold weather. I didn't realize if was hovering near my neck where I sprayed on Bulgari PH. Answer: Guys there is something about scents that attract mosquitos! I am not joking there has been times when I was the only one wearing a frag and I was getting eaten alive by mosquitos while my friends were untouched...I have had this happen on several occasions! Answer: I dunno about scents attracting mosquitoes per se, but I know a mix of rum and Alize will make your breath attract fruit flies.. heh. Answer: One of the posted comments, in this Yahoo! Answers forum addresses this thread: http://sg.answers.yahoo.com/question...AAK0bgR&show=7 "There are many methods to avoid getting bitten by mosquitos. I live in a mosquito-infested city, so I have a lot of experience with this :-) In terms of non-pharmacological (no drugs/sprays), there are changes you can make to repel mosquitos. Mosquitos are attracted to dark clothing. WEAR LIGHT-COLORED CLOTHING. Also, mosquitos are attracted to scents, especially fragrances and sweat. Avoid fragrances in deodorants and perfumes." Answer: I really don't know, as i get eaten alive by them whether i am wearing frags or not, everywhere i go. Them bugs LOVE me. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
